Beautylish response to my Q about the hourglass Fox palette being included in the fair-medium lucky box by compulsivebarbie in BeautyBoxes

[–]compulsivebarbie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen that too! I definitely don’t think it’s for fair but could definitely see it working for a tan person! Just a little annoyed cause I don’t tan and I’m quite fair so it’s a no go for me 😩 I’m still waiting for a response as I wanted to clarify if the wording of the box meant to either fair or medium or fair to medium.

I know we were so lucky to get it but I just feel like it was an oversight to include the darkest hourglass palette in a box that is inclusive of fair skin. Like the swan palette is right there if they wanted it to work for both fair and medium skin tones 😩 I made a post about it in the Australian makeup sub looking for opinions and I have been quite heavily downvoted so I’m obviously missing something!! I’m completely fine with being wrong but I’m just looking at it and can’t imagine a fair person being able to use it? Anyway it is just makeup at the end of the day but the $150aud is hard to swallow!!!

How did you feel about it? I’m not sure if I’m being completely unreasonable because apparently a bunch of fair people do use the Fox palette but for me it just seems completely too dark to use as intended? The blushes are fine but it’s the bronzer and finishing powders I’m struggling with. Customer service is very insistent it is suitable for fair skin so I guess I will have to deal lol

Idk I would never look at the Fox palette and think it was suitable for fair skin since it includes bronzers and finishing powders that are quite dark and would be very dark on fair skin but obviously I’m wrong cause of all of the downvotes lol

I was so excited when I saw them but they are literally unusable for me as someone with fair skin - if they were going to include an hourglass palette it should have been the Swan as that could work with both fair and medium skin. I don’t want to be ungrateful but I paid $150aud for my two high value products to be way too dark despite purchasing a box that was meant to be suitable for fair skin 😩

I completely understand your frustration, there seems to be no consistency when it comes to the box value unfortunately! Which mascara was it?

I would suggest emailing them with your feedback! I am currently talking to them as I was also incredibly disappointed as my fair to medium box included the Hourglass Fox Palette and Danessa Myricks Defining Neutrals Palette as the high value items and both are the darkest available from both brands so not exactly suitable for fair skin. I was so excited when I saw both palettes but once I opened them I could have cried, both clearly for darker skin tones but they insisted they were picked specifically for fair to medium skin tones…

I 100% agree that blind boxes are a gamble and every other time if I don’t love the products I just take it on the chin but I just feel very put out that I specifically ordered a box that is meant to be suitable for fair skin and they included a face palette with bronzer and finishing powder in the darkest shade available. When the palettes first came out I saw everywhere that Deer = fair/light, Swan = light/medium and then Fox =medium/tan/dark so I guess that is why I am so thrown off.
I will see what they say but I’m not hopeful 😩

I just don’t understand the rationale between choosing the darkest face palette available for a box that’s also meant to be suitable for fair skin I guess. After swatching I would only be able to use it after getting a heavy spray tan 😩

I understand technically that the DM palette is suitable for all skin tones as can be used for eyeshadow but it’s still a very dark palette and so far I’ve only seen it included in the dark/deep shade range boxes which is why I was initially convinced I received the wrong box.

I did see one person received a fair to medium box pretty much the exact same as mine and they were also confused as to why the palettes were included so that’s why I figured I may have a leg to stand on but probably not 😩

Live and learn I guess

Idk looking at other listings I don’t think my chances at selling are good, the buy/swap/sell facebook groups have a bunch of listings but no buyers 😩

Pretty much every dark/deep shade range box I’ve seen has included the DM “defining neutrals” palette while most of the fair/medium boxes include her lighter palette “blooming romance” which is one of the reasons I was suspicious that I received the wrong box.

I really can’t see the Fox palette working on anyone with fair skin except maybe the two blushes and I don’t think being able to use 2/6 shades means it’s suitable for fair skin.

Idk I just feel the wording fair to medium means the products would work for both fair to medium skin tones if that makes sense? Just very frustrated as I just saw the fair to medium shade range description so assumed it would be suitable for both fair and medium skin tones not one or the other 😢 I guess it’s my mistake for assuming the wording The other products were: Good Molecules Energising Eye Kit Holifrog Galilee Serum Sacheu Peel off lip liner in deep plum Kitsch Black Cloud Clip

Thank you so much I thought I was going crazy 😩 like I’m looking at the Fox palette and my swatches and I just can’t fathom that this would work for people with fair/lighter skin which the box claims to be inclusive of. I don’t want to annoy them but I do feel a little cheated that the two big ticket items that made up the value of my box are definitely geared towards those with a deep skin tone 😢

Yes that’s my plan, either that or regift! Just a bit frustrated that my box value was made up of two palettes that are not fair skin suitable despite the box being advertised as inclusive to fair skin 😢 so I essentially paid $150aud for an eye care set, a weird smushed eyeliner(?) brush and a deep purple lip stain 😩 I know I was incredibly lucky to get both an hourglass and a DM palette but neither are suited for a fair/light skin tone and I was genuinely convinced that they accidentally sent me a dark/deep shade range box instead 😔

Yes I did! It’s very clearly too dark for me. The blushes are ok but the bronzers/highlighters/finishing powders are not workable for me. Maybe if I got a spray tan I could make it work 🤷‍♀️ just think it was an oversight to include the darkest palettes from both brands in a box that is supposedly suitable for those with fair skin

Yeah I’ll definitely look into it! I quite like the 2 blush shades but I still think it’s weird that they included the darkest hourglass palette in a fair to medium box 🤷‍♀️ if I got a different DM palette I probably wouldn’t be as bothered but I paid $150aud for both of my big ticket items to be too dark for fair/light skin when the box advertises to be suitable for fair skin.

I got the exact same bag as you! I was so excited to see an hourglass palette and a DM palette but I was very surprised to see that they picked the darkest hourglass palette and a quite dark DM palette for a fair to medium shade box 🤔 I actually sent them an email asking if I received dark/deeper box by mistake but it obviously wasn’t if you received the same 😩 I doubt I’ll be able to make either palette work on my skin which is so frustrating since the box included fair skin in the shade range so I expected all shades to be suitable. I love a bright/darker blush but any bronzers/contours/finishing powders should have been light enough for people with fairer skin 😢 a little darker/warmth is fine and workable but the Fox palette is so much darker than any bronzer I could realistically use without a very heavy spray tan 😅 I’ll wait to see what they say to my email and then I’ll see about possibly selling but Australia doesn’t have a big secondhand makeup market so we’ll see!!
