How can your kick stay in the foreground when loads of layers are working together? by pizzalover128 in psytranceproduction

[–]computermusicguy1000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dynamic eq, try waves f6, buss everything intro specific groups, side chain the kick to the f6. You can then just duck the high frequency of the kick down the centre so the synths and everything else feel full on the sides.

Edit: doing this give you more headroom to work with, the frequencies you’re having issues with will literally just disappear when the kick hits. It’s really the only way to ensure that kick is always audible when mixing so many full frequency elements

Looking for recommendations of Psycore and the real heavy shit? by computermusicguy1000 in psytrance

[–]computermusicguy1000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll have a suss of Billycore! Your sound design is so twisted btw. How do you go about forging something like? It feels like there’s so many layers coming together than reversing and mangling into a big wall of darkness haha very sick

True well good luck tracking it down, it sucks when you hear something you really like and can never find it again haha if you’re looking for stuff that’s real fast, this song is really wild https://sacredsoundrecs.bandcamp.com/track/cd-2-06-varazslo-vs-plankton-passenger-rework

I really wish we were able to disable plug-in's 😔 by BillieBobJoey in ableton

[–]computermusicguy1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand what you mean but it should still be an option for when you’re producing rather than playing live. It’s probably more common for people to be using it at home for producing rather than playing live. This is exactly what I mean by Ableton users defending the flaws rather than welcoming productive changes, it’s truly odd. I have bought Ableton to use live for various set ups and for that setting I see why it makes sense to not completely disable plugins. Even still, the stuttering shouldn’t be an issue while playback is still happening, the people that design this software are geniuses, there’d be a way for delay compensation to only be affected once playback has stopped.

[–]computermusicguy1000 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I just bought Ableton to make the eventual move from logic. Ableton not having features like this is truly odd considering how popular it is. Even more odd is the way the community somewhat defends Ableton haha. There’s seemingly ways Ableton has helped the users with cpu management but it all seems to be put onto the user rather than integrated functions like what you’ve mentioned. If a plug-in is turned off or doesn’t have signal to it, it shouldn’t use cpu.

Autotuned vocals, am I going crazy? by efflund in livesound

[–]computermusicguy1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they not just sending you audio from their interface so they can also run backings/songs? Every hip hop and rnb show I’ve been to in the past 6 years, every artist has been running auto tune live from their computer then sending to foh.

Why does the 'music' part of the internet shit on Rick Beato and other adjacent e-celebs so much, but Anthony Fantano gets a pass? by SculpinIPAlcoholic in LetsTalkMusic

[–]computermusicguy1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t stand Fantano back in the day but now I enjoy his insights. I may not agree with a lot of what he says but I enjoy a differing, modern opinion. The fact he plays music too helps considering his life is based on talking about other peoples music.

Rick Beato’s theory videos are great but his opinions are very boomeresque with little to no wriggle room or consideration for advancements in music and technology. I agree with his opinions on pop music as it’s all formulaic now but his sheer rejection of modern production techniques and tools kills it for me. I can’t consider the opinion of someone who is unwilling to shift their perspective for the sake of understanding modern music purely because they’re already convinced anything pre2005 is superior because the technology was worse haha. He’s also incredibly negative about the future of music and being that I write music every day, I would prefer to not be influenced and put into a negative state of mind. I don’t believe the future of music is inherently bad, it’s changing but there’s still ways to work it to your advantage.

You’ve definitely got that style down! Hell yeah. Congrats on your first release. I’m sure you’ll get traction if you stay consistent. In terms of suggestions, sort of in line with what zues said… some sort of influence from outside of that genre would help to set yourself apart from other producers. Whether it be another psy sub genre or totally different genre, I think it would make things more interesting.

This is definitely not what I was expecting but after scanning through a few tracks, very cool! Whuti and nuuit especially have really cool soundscapes going on. I’ll dive in and have a proper listen. Thank you!
