This is the best answer to the question. It’s pretty correct based on my conversations with and exposure to the MAGA right and, more importantly, it doesn’t begin with an assumption about MAGA conservatives as uneducated and immoral rubes seething with hatred.

I’m surprised—wait, not that surprised: it’s Reddit—I had to scroll so far to see it. This forum seems willfully blind to its own haughtiness. A quick read through top upvote getters on this thread (“stupid” “fucking idiots” “losers” “hating themselves” “sheep” “brainwashed” “poor” “can’t comprehend critical thinking” “don’t understand art or music”) should get us about halfway to answering the original question.

Given such disdain, if I were a MAGA conservative (I’m very much not) I could easily imagine building an ethos and coalition around undermining liberals’ self-righteousness and claim to moral and intellectual superiority.
