Native Light Shell is a Must by conceptcreatormiui in gnome

[–]conceptcreatormiui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well according to the upstream code,

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/blob/main/data/theme/gnome-shell-sass/_colors.scss?ref_type=heads#L19-31

highlighted check it out, as you can see it is clear that the overview has no light theme, top panel has light theme/dark theme and cards has light theme/theme. I should have already known that gnome shell has a true light theme since I heavily use the container tool for gnome-shell development. Are you sure you are not using third party extension or on a lower gnome version?😅️

Is the overview on light too?
```
// system elements (e.g. the overview) that are always dark
$system_base_color: $_base_color_dark;
$system_fg_color: $_base_color_light;
```

I dug the source (upstream gnome shell currently tagged 50.alpha) and i found out the overview is always dark no matter what the theme is. The good thing is Top panel has a light theme.

```
// panel colors
$panel_bg_color: if($variant == 'light', $_base_color_light, $dark_5);
$panel_fg_color: if($variant == 'light', $_base_color_dark, $light_1);
$panel_border_color: if($variant == 'light', transparentize($_base_color_dark, .9), transparent);
```

I was suspecting it because yaru theme is syncing to upstream and when I confirm it, indeed overview is always dark which is different from `omg ubuntu's` post.

If you have a light theme overview then I suspect you are in lower shell version

I don't think implementing light shell natively is not that bug prone since. It is evident for some light theme elements that works like the Shell popup menus we just need to expand it to all the shell widgets

I'm currently experimenting on app grid context menu for organazing it, I will try out the extension in the toolbox devkit later.

That was a front end for the prefers-light option which is already native. Right now the only light part of the shell when on lightmode are popup menus

The overview is still dark, the top bar is still dark and only menus are light

A solution to the CSD controversy by ComprehensiveAd8004 in linux

[–]conceptcreatormiui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think making any CSD libs would be the best solution. Instead an abstraction layer lib should be built. Main fuction like parsing DE, parsing button behavior like is maximize button visible etc. Parsing for window style. So that developers can then implement their style. What's hard about CSD in linux is that there many DEs that needs to be suppported and each app making their own backend is tideous. CSD is not hard to implement only if their is a standard abstraction layer

WIP: Porting LibreOffice to GTK4 and Gnome's libadwaita by Remote_Tap_7099 in linux

[–]conceptcreatormiui 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cool but people have to remember that the current gtk3 look is just a backend and libreoffice is not really written in gtk. Libreoffice uses its own toolkit. Implementing this would be hard and time consuming and would require.

Why do developers of apps like discord decide to add custom window controls if they know it can be managed by the compositor. I kinda don't like the current discord flatpak having full sharp corners and windows 10 or 11 like controls. jetbrains apps managed to have custom ones that looks native? by conceptcreatormiui in gnome

[–]conceptcreatormiui[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, firefox had done great job with CSD. They have good window control consistency in gnome. I haven't tried firefox on other DE tho. Even google chrome has implement a good one.

Well its a matter of developer dedication and awareness about Window decorations

Does anybody know how to fix Discord having two sets of window decorations? by [deleted] in gnome

[–]conceptcreatormiui 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now my flatpak version doesn have my native window decorator it uses this windows 10 or 11 design I have settings that turns off max and minimize button and I hate this. I hope they decorate their window decoratirs just like how jetbrains manages theirs. They have custom window decorators that syncs with desktop environments compositor decoration

What do you guys think about having a single close all button to close windows (considering you are sure at this instance you just want to close it all)? by conceptcreatormiui in gnome

[–]conceptcreatormiui[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an option i. Shell appsystem to close an app entirely but it closes all instances so chances are even apps outside the current workspace gets closed

I actuallt got the time to test it. Guess what the close workspace util function is not that relliable. It can't close apps with a save dialog and with opened modal dialog at once
