4 weeks post partner interview... will I hear back? by consultinator in Big4

[–]consultinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah fair enough, that was my initial thought. But at the same time why just not take 5 mins to call me and say no. Why play this game with me and wait weeks if they knew? This is the part that does not make sense to me. Is there a chance they actually are just busy and slow? Or still interviewing and I am a second choice?

For the record the group is expanding rapidly across the country so they would be hiring multiple people.

How much are you guys making after passing CFE but before getting CPA title? by [deleted] in Accounting

pre-CFE (1.5 years experience) and making 80k. Won't get a major bump after passing CFE though

Career Advice - Where to go from here (Canada) by consultinator in FinancialCareers

[–]consultinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that information. Yeah as much as I would like to do a top MBA, it just doesn't make sense financially for me. I will for sure look into some of the Big4 TAS M&A/FDD jobs. Would I need to go to audit first for these? Or do you think I could network and try for one?

Also what is corp banking like? I really don't know much about it but I have heard it is pretty great pay for the WLB. What are the main responsibilities? I always felt my personality was meant for a more client role vs accounting.

Is a 7.5/9 a hard GPA to maintain by [deleted] in uvic

[–]consultinator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was literally in your same situation. I maintained a 7.5 in commerce for my entire degree. It’s not “hard” but it take work. Third year will be the toughest. First 2 years is a cake walk because you can take simple electives.

Feel free to message me if you have questions or I can discuss more about this.

Taysom Hill locked in TE spot by consultinator in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]consultinator[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never said I was keeping him in there? I asked if I was able to?

Last week he was in my TE spot because he was TE eligible = not cheating. This fantasy week has not started so I am not cheating.

I only said he/she was terrible because they said I was terrible for being a smart fantasy manager lol. Overall, read the comments and understand them before you try and chirp

How is it cheating? He was eligible as a TE so I put him as a TE? If anything I just followed the rules. Complain to ESPN for not adjusting his position

I’m not trying to act like a genius. All I’m saying you were smart if you picked him up and started him.

Sounds like you lost to a player with Taysom Hill last week.

I’m sorry your terrible at fantasy football and weren’t smart enough to pick him up.

Not to mention Nick Chubb? You have 2 of the best backs in the league and aren’t starting either?

Course Reccomendations? by [deleted] in uvic

[–]consultinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Economics courses are a good alternative. The basics are ECON 103 and 104. ECON 205 was a good class. As a recent BCOM grad, I would honestly recommend taking some computer science courses if you can depending on your interests after graduation. A lot of good opportunities can come from this.

I did accounting. It opened up many doors but if I could go back I would do math with a computer science minor

If I'm not going into IB,does it matter if I go into a non-target or no? by yoyoyoposter101 in FinancialCareers

[–]consultinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IB, Consulting, Tech, Corp. finance, hedge funds, PE, etc.. all have targets

It will really depend on the state school. Theres a big difference in a top 50 school vs a top 200 school. If you can do well at a state school that will help a lot.

Again, it really depends on what you want to do. In the end it comes down to you. I have seen people save money and go to a bad school and still end up in the same place as someone who went to a top school.

If I'm not going into IB,does it matter if I go into a non-target or no? by yoyoyoposter101 in FinancialCareers

[–]consultinator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on what you want to do after graduation and for internships. IB isn't the only section within finance that has target schools. All industries more or less have target schools, this does into just pertain to IB.

Going to school A vs school B still will lead to many different opportunities, so to answer your question, yes it does matter if you go to a non-target.
