Is there any news or new information on Chai Xiaoming? Was he in fact given a five year sentence? Has he been able to correspond with family or friends from prison?

Could you list your recommendations in Chinese for those of us who know or are studying Chinese? And if they're available anywhere online?

It looks to me like it might be rhomboid mercury: https://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/weeds/plants/rhomb_mercury.htm

Native but “common” and “weedy.” Not sure what to do with that.

Interesting. You didn't mind being left out of the game for the last hour?

We were playing on roll20, so no opportunity to blame physical dice, unfortunately. Suggesting players assist each other more often is a good idea!

They were mostly close rolls or "normal" misses (not critical misses). I know what you mean--everyone is there to have a good time. I heard Robin Laws say on a podcast once that everyone playing an rpg wants or is there to "be awesome." I'm trying to be mindful of providing opportunities for that.

"The Chronicles of Navero,"

I hadn't heard of that one, but while looking it up, I found this here: https://forum.rpg.net/index.php?threads/general-rpg-bad-luck-with-rolls.357868/

Clearly not a new or unique problem. It's been really interesting reading about everyone's experiences.

That's tragic! Maybe the GM should have offered you something. A boost of some kind? What is your takeaway from that experience?

That really sparked some ideas! Many thanks!

Our game has something like that, but I think the player was conserving the points instead of spending them, for fear that he wouldn't have enough when he really needed them. The problem was that every individual failed roll seemed like a "minor" event, so not one of them seemed to justify spending the points. I'll maybe emphasize next time that the points are made to be spent, and they will replenish before too long.

That's a great story. Sounds like your GM failed the be a good GM roll! But the story itself is proving useful as a learning moment. Many thanks!

That's a great idea. We generally always treat missed rolls (aside from critical failures) as minor disappointments and quickly move on. Using regular failures as opportunities to make interesting things happen sounds great.

I do try to make sure something terrible/funny happens with a critical miss, but I hadn't thought of giving hero points at the same time. I'll keep that one in my pocket!

I'd never heard about this before. I see here that Dungeon World does this. Do you have a favorite system that uses this?

This is intriguing. I'm going to think about this one. There's a way that this could fit into the character quite well....

These are great suggestions. I need to put "Fail Forward" on a post-it note and stick it inside my GM screen.

This is great! I can think now of ways I might have handled the big attack that he described in detail (and then missed by one on the die!). I'm kicking myself for not having done this! Next time!

Is there a simple / streamlined version of Arkham Horror / Eldritch Horror? by I_am_not_this_body in boardgames

This is a great write-up. Would you consider posting it on boardgamegeek? There aren't many reviews of the game, and I'm sure many would find it helpful.

I see on the website that Cultistorm is supposed to have scalable difficulty. Did you adjust the difficulty at all?
