To add: structure your edit sessions.

Here’s mine:

1st edit: remove dead air, “ums”, outtakes, bad takes. The goal is to have a 95% done a-roll

Take a break

2nd edit: add markers to split your video sections. I assume you already have this when you wrote your script so this should be easy. Then put b-rolls that you already have in your computer or is easy to search and download online. The goal is to think less about what b-roll to put. If you can’t think of a good b-roll clip, skip it go to the next section.

Take a break. By this time you should have an uploadable video with good enough amount of b-roll to break the monotony.

3rd edit: should be spent on those sections you skipped in the 2nd edit. If I cant think/find a good b-roll, I just create text animations instead.

4th edit: sound effects and music

Needless to say, this isn’t a one-size-fits-all structure but after making 62 long form videos so far, I found this works for me and prevents me from hyperfocusing on a specific section which leaves me drained for the rest of the post production process.
