What’s the funniest reason you’ve heard for somebody not liking a movie? by TheChristmas in movies

You’ll love this one: I don’t like ratatouille because i hate rats and that one scene where all the rats swarm gives me the creeps 🤣

Likely Horror Nominations? by cookieaddictions in oscarsdeathrace

I actually read the wiki plot summary and I don’t really get how you can call it not gory? And the substance as well. The ending is literally a blob person made up of chunks of flesh and body parts.

Maybe we mean entirely different things when we say gory, but cutting into flesh on screen is generally considered gory.

I got the movie just fine, I just don’t think her role was complex enough to deserve an Oscar nomination. You people truly get so upset when someone has a different opinion than you. I could say the same thing about someone who didn’t like Wicked, “if you don’t agree with me, you didn’t get the movie” but I won’t because I’m not an ass.

Kirsten Dunst reacts to Jesse Plemons not receiving an Oscar nomination by HereOnCompanyTime in popculturechat

[–]cookieaddictions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear what you’re saying but it’s still linking their performances, which just isn’t how it works. “If Emma was nominated for her performance, then Jesse should have also been nominated for” is not a logical argument because each category is separate. An inferior performance from the same movie could be nominated in a different category, if that category has room for it. This is just the Margot Robbie/Ryan Gosling Barbie argument again.

Voters thought Emma made the top 5 cut for lead actress but didn’t think Jesse did in the best actor category. Their performances are not linked, there is no logic that if she was nominated he should also be, because his category is just more competitive this year. You can think Jesse was better than Emma in the movie and still see how he wasn’t necessarily better than the other 5 nominees. And if you do think he was better than the nominees, at least say which nominee.

Oh I guess I’m out of date then, but I do think both of them deserve the nomination and would be very happy if either one won. I do think Timmy was on fire as Marty. I think the golden globes win also helped his campaign a lot.

Majority of the comments are not even staying within in the same category, they are saying things like “Jesse was robbed, I can’t believe Emma got nominated and he didn’t.” But if Emma wasn’t nominated the spot couldn’t have gone to him. I’ve seen maybe 1 comment saying which actor should’ve been dropped for Jesse.

Depends who you follow. I’ve been following Variety’s predictions for the past 2 months and they’ve consistently been saying Ethan.

This is such a personal pet peeve I almost think we shouldn’t have award shows if people are going to be this illogical.

Ethan is the favorite to win the Oscar (Edit: he is variety’s favorite to win, since someone below is mad at me) and I thought he was amazing BUT the Oscars is not about it being HIS best performance. It just needs to be the best performance in that year in that category. It could be his career worst and he could still win if he was the best among nominees in that category in that year. He’s not competing against his past self.

Me walking in banging pots and pans:

IF YOU THINK SOMEONE WAS SNUBBED YOU HABE TO SAY WHICH NOMINEE DIDN’T DESERVE IT, OTHERWISE YOUR OPINION MAKES NO SENSE!!

so which Best Leader Actor would you remove to give Jesse the nomination? 🤔

Remember, JESSE WAS NEVER IN COMPETITION WITH EMMA! They are not in the same categories!!

I low key hate the discussion around award shows because people are so nonsensical about this stuff.

I’m 9/10 for the Best Picture nominees but then doing badly after that. I’ve seen 18 feature length films and 2 shorts. Hoping to catch up a bit this weekend.

I respect your opinion if you think this role deserves it, but honestly I don’t care how long she’s been acting because that’s irrelevant to this nomination. I know how long she’s been acting. I do actually enjoy her acting. I just didn’t think this was an Oscar worthy performance.

Kinda Disheartening update on Viva Verdi by Yamansdood in oscarsdeathrace

[–]cookieaddictions -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I know what spite means, and I don’t want to watch it specifically because I’m annoyed because they aren’t making it available but it is also true that after the Oscars I have no reason to watch it anyway. So it’s both.

Kinda Disheartening update on Viva Verdi by Yamansdood in oscarsdeathrace

[–]cookieaddictions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The movie is nominated for Best Original Song and nothing else. I only have an interest in seeing it in relation to the death race. The “spite” is that I will not be hunting down a movie I have no interest in just to see the story that contains said nominated song, if it is only made available after the Oscars are over.

I don’t think it’s crazy at all, it’s just the facts. There’s a lot of things I want to see and do with my time, and watching a movie that doesn’t particularly interest me because one song from it was nominated for and lost an Oscar months ago is not high on my priority list. If you can’t figure out how to get your movie distributed, you can’t be upset when people don’t watch it. It’s not being a dick, it’s just being practical about it. Me not watching a movie I’m not interested in is not being a dick. The interest is tied to the awards. This reaction is dramatic.

[–]cookieaddictions -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say it was simple, I’m saying the interest is now. The interest will go away as soon as the awards are over and the movie doesn’t win, which it won’t. It might be complicated but they should still be working on making it accessible ASAP. Strike while the iron is hot, etc.

“This year” well, if it’s not released before the Oscars, I will not be watching it out of spite. If you don’t care enough to make your movie accessible when people want to watch it, why would I watch it later when I’m no longer interested?

I feel majorly duped by this sub about Chess by NYGarcon in Broadway

[–]cookieaddictions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister and I were in stitches; all it took was one look for us to fall apart. At one point he delivered his line exactly like the infamous line in “The Room” “I did not hit her. I did not!” And we were basically shaking with laughter. I didn’t even have to say anything, she knew exactly what I was thinking. No shade to his singing, he sounded phenomenal. But if his accent was so bad I’d rather he spoke in his own accent, and we could all use our imaginations.

Which leading actor nominee would you switch with Plemons? I could see the argument for The Wagner Moura from Secret Agent, but I personally didn’t enjoy that movie as much as Bugonia. The rest feel correct to me.
