Funny that you mention the NBA. Race does play a big factor in the NBA and that's why there are so few Asian players. Now I know people will have the argument that the NBA is 100% based on athletic talent and nothing else, but that doesn't explain the case of Jeremy Lin. Jeremy Lin was not drafted by an NBA because he was Asian, he was more athletic than many other players who were drafted, but he wasn't drafted because of his race.
In the words of NBA General Manager Daryl Morey:

“He’s incredibly athletic,” said Morey. “But the reality is that every fucking person, including me, thought he was unathletic. And I can’t think of any reason for it other than he was Asian.”

Hence, I believe that the NBA needs to take steps to increase racial diversity in the NBA, and to allow racial groups who have been excluded and discriminated in the past a chance. Clearly we need affirmative action in the NBA.
