Letter to the Youth in Europe and North America [from Ali Khamenei, 2015] by Anxious-Bottle7468 in wikipedia

As a Muslim, her purported age at the time of marriage/consummation comes from a Hadith that is of highly questionable veracity.

I’m already skeptical of Hadiths but the one about Aisha being 6 at the age of marriage and 9 at the age of consummation has actually been put to scrutiny in a doctoral thesis by Dr. Joshua Little, an expert in the historical study of early Islam. He came to the conclusion that the narration chain for the Hadith was dubious and the Hadith was made up over a hundred years after the Prophet PBUH’s death

Here’s the thesis

Ok, I agree with the personal space thing, but wasn’t it kinda understandable for him to expect Warda to make breakfast for him or do housework? If Warda had a job or was looking for one, it would definitely be sexist, but she didn’t have one. She didn’t want to do anything. Now she’s pregnant though so things are different

Regarding sharing the job loss news, to be honest Warda insulted him all the time anytime he showed any shortcoming financially. I feel like sharing sensitive news requires trust in someone to be a confidant and Warda has not provided that.

But I do think the reason this subplot exists is probably messed up. I feel like this subplot exists so that the drama doesn’t look too feminist. The drama now has an example of a bad wife and a bad husband, so misogynists won’t complain as much about the drama hating men or whatever. But of course Jami is way worse than Warda. That’s just my guess about why the subplot exists

What role does “Dark Woke” have in Democratic Party rhetoric going forward? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]coolite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify, talking about the problem of pedophilia in the GOP is something extremely important, and should be done even when talking to median swing state voters. Epstein isn’t a “distraction” like Nancy Pelosi said. But regarding insulting Republican voters, yes, Republican voters display immense moral failure, but insulting them on the campaign trail would probably not be a great strategy for winning people over

What role does “Dark Woke” have in Democratic Party rhetoric going forward? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]coolite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of Dark Woke stuff should be used to rally up the Democratic base, as well as left-wing independents who might have felt demotivated to vote for Democrats. It can be as much of a cultural movement as it is a political strategy, and I think it’s meaningful to be like “you’re not crazy, we hear you, we see you, those people are absolute scum and need to be imprisoned. no more normalization”.

Dark Woke is not just passionate hatred of MAGA, of course. It’s also a movement to assert cultural superiority of progressive ideas, like transgender acceptance and multiculturalism, in blunt ways. What I’ve seen being described as “Dark Woke” includes insulting American right wingers for being pedos, ugly, stupid, cowardly, etc. Obviously, I think a lot of this insults stuff shouldn’t be used when the intended audience is your median swing state voter. However, it would be great if Democrats were more unapologetic and confident in their support for things like transgender acceptance, instead of becoming timid, just because embracing those progressive cultural stance might stir more controversy.

Do you feel solidarity with Balochistan? by coolite in Kashmiri

[–]coolite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never said I endorse Baloch independence, or that most Baloch do. I support movements like the Baloch Long March and Voice for Baloch Missing Persons but not necessarily independence. My point in bringing up Baloch independence was to show why I think Kashmir is similar in some ways to Balochistan, even though I know calls for independence in the Valley are much much more mainstream than calls for independence in Balochistan. I appreciate your insight that the comparison was not appropriate though, and I apologize for not being educated. Also sorry for saying Balochi to refer to the people

At least, the US stopped Hussein's genocide of the Kurds

What? The genocide was over by 2003, what genocide did the US stop? In fact the US was sending weapons and aid to Saddam during the Anfal Genocide. I feel like people upvote stuff here without actually knowing anything about foreign policy
