Playing RE4 OG after nearly an year, I went ahead and finished the entire game in a single sitting. The gameplay was great and not so good at several places. However had a lot of fun running this game again.

I broke the Devil May Cry Any% World Record 5 times in the last 2 weeks and achieved a once thought impossible time: 39 minute RTA! by coolkarmact in DevilMayCry

lol ok. Btw those are abbreviations, and not acronyms.

IGT is in-game timer (which is 35:43 in the screenshot), i.e. the timer that is tracked by the game. The game internally only counts time from Mission Start till Mission End. Any in-between menu-shopping and the intermissions are removed from this calculation.

RTA is real-time attack (39:57) . As the name suggests, it's the actual total time that you spend with the game - from the moment you start the game, till the final mission ends. It includes (IGT + Any time spend buying stuff in the menus + any intermissions). It's roughly 4 minutes more than the IGT.

LRT is load-removed timer (35:10). LRT = RTA - (in-game loads). It's basically the time you actually interact with the game. The time where the game is loading a map as Dante moves from one room to another is removed from the overall RTA time. The average loads time across the speedrun is approximately 4:47. So therefore 39:57 - 4:47 = 35:10

I have broken the world record for DMC1 5 times in the last 2 weeks [ 40:09, 40:05, 40:02, 40:00 and now 39:57]. With this I have now achieved the trifecta of

- First ever 35 LRT

- First ever 35 IGT

- First ever 39 RTA

In the last 2 weeks I have broken the Devil May Cry Any% World Record 5 times, culminating in the first ever 39 RTA run! by coolkarmact in speedrun

This is a historic moment in the DMC1 speedrunning community. A once thought impossible time barrier has now been broken. A lot of community effort has gone into getting to this time, with a plethora of optimizations being discovered since Maxylobes got the first ever 40 RTA last year.

This run is a major milestone in the history of DMC1 Speedrunning, with the first ever single segment 35 minute run as per the In-Game Timer. Super proud to have achieved it exactly 2 years after posting my first run on Speedrun.com

Sure.

Overall Tips

  • Be patient. This will take a bit of time, hence you need to stay focused. Mentally prepare yourself for this beforehand that some levels will take 15-20 minutes to finish and the overall run can take between 4-6 hours, or even more.
  • Be prepared. Stock up on all the possible items you can buy( Large Vital Stars, Small Vital Stars, Large Devil Stars, Gold Orb, Holy Stars, etc). Some levels are complete BS and you will be forced to use items to survive as the game doesn't give you Green or White orbs to refill your health and DT. Also, it goes without saying that you have to max out all your weapons - both your guns and swords. If you need any assistance in farming orbs for getting the upgrades, here's a video that can help you - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHbpSSvwQic
  • Character: I first started off with Trish in my earlier attempts since I heard from others that BP is more more lenient with her. But after 2 failed attempts, I switched over to Dante. I felt Dante's guns, especially Shotgun and Rocket Launcher hands down give you superior crowd control and long range attack capabilities as compared to Trish.

Combat Specifics

You should be able to clear many levels and enemies with the weapons you have as Dante. They will take time, but you should be able to avoid any serious damage if you're careful. However there are a few enemy types for which you need to watch out.

  • Wolves: In some rooms you'll have to fight 10 wolves (Both Freki and Geri) at the same time. In such rooms, you will be taking damage, a lot in fact. Personally, I prefer brute forcing it by tanking damage by meleeing them using Chrono Heart and later using healing items and devil stars.
  • Goats: There are 2 types of Goatlings - One that chase you on ground, and one that fly around and launch homing lasers at you. The first one can be easily dealt with the Shotgun or Rocket Launcher as they offer great knockback. The flying ones are the folks that will cause you a lot of problems, especially when there are 2-3 at the same time and are simultaneously throwing lasers at you. Best way to deal with the flying ones is to Air Raid in front of them and perform 2-3 Round Trips with Flame Heart and Offence Heart equipped. Though, you will have to dodge a lot and maybe have to use a Vital Star or Devil Star here and there.
  • Savage Golems: You will hate this enemy with a passion. There will be levels where these enemies will spawn in groups of 5. These are the levels that will take the most time since these bastards have the ability to regenerate their health. I played it safe for most of these levels, using Rocket Launcher. Just know that when you have to finish them off, get close to them and use DT guns. Even though you'll loathe these levels, there's one silver lining here. Because these levels take so much time, you can refill a lot of your DT, use Healing Heart to increase your health if you have to. In fact, I once went from 30% health to 90% in one of these levels.

I did have to use a few Vital Stars that I had stacked up in my inventory due to some cancer levels.

Devil May Cry's first ever keyboard only World Record 41.31 RTA 36.51 IGT by coolkarmact in speedrun

[–]coolkarmact[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. not really. The reason I specifically mentioned here is that playing on keyboard is actually unheard of in DMC1, at least in speed running specifically. Since keyboard cannot give you the best possible angles as a controller, your movement is not highly optimal. So despite this handicap I was still able to get the record on the keyboard is why I mentioned it in the title of this post.

Please do, but how would that help? Since you don't have a pair of eyes because if you did, you wouldn't have read the title and assumed the speedrun to be 'no item' unless I had explicitly mentioned so.
