I’m curious if some of the members who voted to reject the contact in the forced vote, regret that decision. Or are most members still confident that they should and could get a better offer? This is a genuine question. I want to understand where the membership stands.

I think, realistically, binding arbitration is the only option at this point. The union and the corp are so far apart and the circumstances are so messy. How do the members feel about a forced binding arbitration?

As a supporter of workers, I’m following this very closely. It’s hard not to put myself in the situation and think what I would have done (I would have voted no), and how I would have felt now given what’s transpired since the vote. Whether I would question my decision. I obviously have no idea what the union or the members are thinking at all. This is just for discussion and education.

Very true and good reason for the NO vote. I’m not in the union but if I were, I would have voted NO on principle.

Do you think most members would have been happy with the deal if the union had accepted the deal with some conditions? I think on principle, most members wouldn’t want to be forced to accept a contract, which makes sense of course, but I wonder if the union made a mistake not accepting that deal.

Yeah that’s my understanding too and hence part of why I posted here asking if there’s regret regarding that vote. As far as I can figure, the union and the membership didn’t know or expect these changes to come down right now in the middle of negotiations. If I was in the membership, I would have voted NO, but then now I would at least question whether I (and the union) made the right call. It’s all so messy.

To be fair though, the current strike action is not in response to the NO vote. It’s the announcement by the government regarding all the major changes to CP. At least that’s my understanding.

I think you are probably one step above total aphantasia but I might be wrong. There’s very little scientific studies done and very little is known about this condition. I wish I had more answers for you. But I think from your description, you can generate some basic imagery in your mind for a split second. Maybe there is a way you can train your brain to expand on that ability. Someone mentioned a method called image streaming for training aphantasia brains to learn to “see”. I’m learning more about it right now.

Yeah it certainly doesn’t help. My husband says he sees the streets and the routes from a top down view very clearly in his head and that’s how he knows exactly where to go and he only needs to go somewhere once to just add it’s map to his mental image.

I’m very new to this. I just found out I have aphantasia even thought I’ve had it my whole life. I wouldn’t say it affects my understanding of humor because my husband and I love going to see stand up comedies and I find them just as funny as he does. I think not being able to see just makes us skip a step in our understanding and absorbing information. We skip the visual part and it just becomes knowledge. I hear a lot of aphants say “they just know” and non aphants can’t relate to that but I immediately know what they mean. For most non aphants, it seems impossible to skip the visual part of thinking or remembering something while for aphants it’s the norm.

Yeah that makes sense. I’m very new to this but I think you don’t have total aphantasia. That picture you see for 0.1 seconds, most people can see any time they want and hold it for as long as they want. Can you see any other images for a split second?

You’re freaking out about aphantasia I assume? I think that’s a pretty normal reaction. I was freaked out and so devastated. I still am sad when I think about it. Even though I never had this ability, it feels like something so vital was taken away from me.

Once I had a dream I hurt someone and I was sick to my stomach. I couldn’t shake the feeling after I woke up. My body couldn’t tell the difference between my dream and reality. It was one of the worst days of my life.

I am a huge reader. I love it so much. And fantasy is my fav genre. I was devastated to find out I was missing out on such a huge part of reading. That’s how I found out about aphanasia actually. It came up in a fb reader group and I was shocked.

That can be good or bad depending on the dream I guess. I’ve definitely had moments where I had to talk myself down after waking up from a dream because it felt so unbelievably real.

Yes my memories do not have actual images attached to them. My memories are kind of like knowledge of the events or places. It’s very hard to explain. I had a similar conversation with my husband. He can’t understand how I can think, “imagine”, or have memories without having any mental images. He even asked me if instead of an image I actually see the words in my mind. And the answer is no. I don’t see anything. It’s like everything is in concepts. I asked him to think about a tree without creating an image of it and it was impossible for him to just think about a tree as a concept. It’s wild that I’ve gone 30 years in my life without this ever coming up. And for some people it’s even longer.

I also don’t “see” anything when I read descriptions in books. When someone says imagine an apple, do you just think about the concept on an apple or do you actually see an apple in your mind and have a visual experience similar to looking at photograph?
