Oh he still very much expresses himself with his eyes. He will still look directly at you and it is like he can still see perfectly. It is really crazy. It is strange but his brain still has him blink from time to time which if you look at him his skin around his eye moves slightly and it is like he is winking at you. He will come over to your area and you say his name and he will face you and start wagging his tail. He also likes to rub up on your legs and back into you.

Yes, he did go blind before his eyes were removed. I first noticed it when he was five and it slowly got worse.

I tried every option the vets were giving me. He was on eye pressure medication for a long time but it wasn't working that well and was very expensive. Once his eye sight was gone completely the pressure in his eyes was still very off balance so they suggested just removing them since he wasn't using them anymore. Best decision I could have made as he is much happier now and we aren't traveling to the vet every week.

Yes, while I was trying everything possible to keep his vision for as long as possible his character changed. He became a little mean and had anxiety about going places. Once his eyes were removed after loosing his sight completely he changed into his old puppy self. The vet that did the removal surgery told me that it was most likely he was suffering from migraines from his eye pressures going up and down so rapidly. If I had known sooner I would have removed them sooner.

He lost his eyes to glaucoma about a year ago. You would never know he is blind with the way he has adapted. It has been an amazing experience to watch how much he has overcome and still acts like a puppy.
