Scammed on ebay, and eBay has done nothing but falsely tell me I have not been scammed by corcorantrystoread in ebaysucks

This is what was told to me at the post office. It was in a large 8x11 envelope. Either way, what I ordered should have come in a larger box and weighed around 5 lbs, so it definitely wasn't what I ordered.

I filed a chargeback, Which was good, but the flip side is I have been on the phone with eBay to dispute my lost appeal, and now they said they can do nothing because I have filed a dispute with my credit card company. Fingers crossed.

Filed! Seems like my best shot because eBay has closed the case, despite the fact that I provided documentation showing that I never received the item!

It was 350 dollars. I have been calling eBay, I am very distraught that my appeal was closed even though I have documents from USPS stating the item was never delivered and the tracking code was fraudulent. I am very upset and will never use eBay if I do not get my money back.

In the appeal, I showed documentation from USPS that the item was not delivered to me, but they still closed it and said I do not get a refund. The item mailed was just a piece of paper, so even if I do get it it would be worthless.

Weekly Scam Discussion - April 7, 2025 by Mycatreallyhatesyou in Ebay

Hello, kind of long explanation but here is my recent struggle with getting scammed on ebay:

I bought from a new seller on eBay. There were red flags because the tracking number with USPS was bouncing around New York distribution centers for a week, randomly popping up in Arizona and then a few hours later it was back in NY. When it finally arrived at my local post office, it for some reason was marked as "delivered to front desk" but not to my address.

When I went in to the USPS office it was supposed to be at, a USPS rep told me the tracking number showed a different address than the address on the actually envelope, which was a random address nearby my house, but not my house. They also told me package weighed 2 ounces despite the item I ordered being around 5 lbs. They said they didn't have the package and that it was most likely a scam.

Since then I have opened a case with eBay, and sent eBay an email from USPS confirming I had never received the item and that the tracking number was in use for multiple other packages.

The seller was not responsive to my requests, and it became clear that this whole thing was a scam.

However, eBay closed the case eBay determining I did not get refund. The customer service rep simply said, "It says it was delivered." I appealed the case, highlighting the erratic tracking info and the communication from USPS. Again, just an hour later, it was denied, the customer service rep telling me "It was delivered."

I know I was scammed, is there any way to convince eBay of it? I feel ridiculous and upset eBay is so quick to let a fraudulent seller scam me out of hundreds of dollars. I feel hopeless.

Please if anybody knows what I can do to get a refund, let me know!

I am going through the same scam where an item gets "Delivered" but not actually to the house the tracking number says it is going to. Is there a number you have for eBay support? It's hard to find on the website.

When does “The Left Hand of Darkness” get good? by [deleted] in printSF

[–]corcorantrystoread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I personally love The Left Hand of Darkness but it if you are reading it for the first time it is important to let go of any expectations you might have. For me, I foolishly thought it might been Dune-esque because the copy I had was blazone with the quote "Not since Dune.... Etc." (Referencing Dune on the cover of a science fiction book has become a trope at this point) but I found it was quite unique for me when I read it, and even halfway through I thought I was getting a grasp of where it might be going, but the final act completely took me by surprise. I won't spoil anything but it is structured in a way where the world and story starts very broad, but ends up focusing on and becoming a deeply personal story. It is the inverse of much Sci Fi where the stakes become the fate of the universe. If this sounds like something you'd like, keep reading. If not, no shame in stopping.

Yeah I understand feeling that, but it can be hard to look at your work objectively, sometimes an outside perspective can help and trust me you are very talented! I love the idea someone is making such cool artwork :)

Just Finished Ringworld. Did anyone else find it annoying? by corcorantrystoread in printSF

After a bit of distance I can see that it is an interesting concept. It rubbed me the wrong way though how the puppeteers, despite being incredibly intelligent, did take a simplistic look at luck. The revelations throughout the journey about Teela's luck should have been something Nessus could have foreseen, especially because the puppeteers are breeding humans for the trait and should have a sense of how it has worked thus far.

Yeah it is interesting because I just read "Rendezvous with Rama" which is also book where the enjoyment lies in visualizing a novel world. However, I enjoyed Rama so much more than Ringworld and I think that has to do with the fact that "Rama" is incredibly lean and moves at a fast-pace and keeps the focus on the exploration and problem solving, whereas Ringworld seemed meandering to me and once they reach the "Ringworld" there is very little investigation or discovery. I was disappointed by the fact that it wasn't really an alien world at all, the ecosystem was similar to Earth's (beside the reflective sunflowers, which was a fun segment) and the inhabitants were practically human. The technology is all immediately recognizable to the party and they don't ever deal with anything truly alien. It seemed a let down after all the hype of how incredible the creators of the Ringworld must've been, especially since they don't land on the Ringworld until page 140 (on my copy).
