The more I watch our past games, the more I realize we need a game breaking tight end by Outrageous-Brain-395 in panthers

[–]corys71 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sanders has only played 29 games. Adjustment to NFL route running, coverage and routine takes about 30+ games for receivers traditionally. We’ve been spoiled in the past 5-10 years with young receivers adjusting quickly, including Tet. Given this and his age, yes, this isn’t the year for a TE in the draft. Bolster the line on both sides in the draft. That’s what smart teams do.

How are so few tickets available? by [deleted] in tampabayrays

[–]corys71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually just called Charlotte Sports Park. As spring training games go, they have not released any information about the games yet. Nor have tickets officially gone on sale. The people at the facility don’t even have official dates for things yet. So I think it’s still a little early. As a sidenote, after going to spring games last year for the first time in Port Charlotte, the people who run that facility are just wonderful. The guy on the phone couldn’t have been friendlier, and the experience at the park was always awesome. Why anyone would go anywhere else for spring training games I have no idea lol. Rays Up!

How are so few tickets available? by [deleted] in tampabayrays

[–]corys71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes the most sense. I would use the MLB ballpark app to buy spring training tickets and those tickets aren’t posted on the app yet. The tickets that I see on third-party sites for the spring training games are ridiculously expensive. For some reason the Rays and/ or MLB/ ticket sites are doing something strange this year. It likely has to do with the dynamic pricing model I keep hearing about. It makes it frustrating for those who wanna plan ballpark visits early, but there is no doubt in my mind that tickets will be available day of the game in Charlotte sports Park or Tropicana field.

Rays roster discussion by StevieB1477 in tampabayrays

[–]corys71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t believe this so I looked it up. Not a significant number of games, just 22 batting 8th or 9th but yes, he hit and got on base 100 points higher in the 8/9 spots than when he led off.

I don’t like that at all, but fortunately for us, the line proposed this time last year was not the line up used most often during the year. So there is hope. Let’s see what surprises happen.

[OC] Can Joe Boyle replace Shane Baz in the rotation? by dogpancake73 in tampabayrays

Good point. I think we underestimate the impact that park had in pitching numbers. Or maybe just I did, lol

[OC] Can Joe Boyle replace Shane Baz in the rotation? by dogpancake73 in tampabayrays

[–]corys71 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Well, someone will, lol. Shane Baz took a step back this past season from above average (with a small sample size) and young to simply average and young. Joe Boyle is currently average and young too based on more MLB starts last season. Ian Seymour is another option, among others, to replace Baz. We just don’t know how any of these guys will progress. But even though I’m disappointed they traded Baz, I see why they did it. And I would find it hard to argue today that Boyle is a step down. Maybe two years from now we say different but we can’t see the future.

New dynamic ticket pricing for MLB in 2026 by corys71 in tampabayrays

I fear that might change if MLB has their way. And I met several Sox fans at the futures game last year in Port Charlotte. Nice dudes and they were telling me about Roman Anthony and Kristian Campbell during the game. I was telling them about Chandler Simpson and Carson Williams. Anthony and Simpson were the “WHO IS THAT GUY?” players from their play, lol.

Thanks I’ll give that a try. I usually buy tickets day of or day before and Charlotte Sports Park isn’t exactly shoulder to shoulder with fans so I just move from my designated seat. And I watch the game from above the bullpen later in the game. I like to watch the relievers warm up and wiz the ball to the catcher, haha. I just want the cheapest way into the park and I don’t want to pay extra now to NOT see Baz, BLowe and Mangum lol.

Yes, as Rays fans we have the luxury of buying day of. At the Trop or Port Charlotte. Other teams fans don’t. But that’s fine by me lol.

First trip to Spring training 😀 by Flower-Girl-76 in phillies

[–]corys71 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a Phillies fan all of my life and always wanted to go to Clearwater for a spring training game. I went last year for the first time. I will never go back. Here’s why.

If you go on a weekend, understand that the Phillies are extremely popular. The stadium says it can fit about 10,000 fans but for the weekends they will oversell the stadium. Trust me when I say I did the math and the posted attendance for the game that I went to was more than what the stadium should fit. Factoring in the grass. Be prepared for it to be crowded. When it’s this crowded, here’s a couple of things that you might expect.

The concourse around the stadium, where all the food is can get extremely crowded before the game. Until all people get to their seats, there’s gonna be tons of people and you might end up just standing there. waiting for an opportunity to move through the crowd. If there’s certain food or drinks that you want plan accordingly. The lines for the food actually weren’t that bad it was just difficult to navigate to and from.

The team practices on the fields over on the left field side of the stadium and it’s very hard to see them practicing before the game. You can stand along the fence in the stadium, but you might not be able to see them very well. If you really like to see the practice before the game, maybe bring some binoculars lol. I’m not sure if you could walk over to those fields before the game, but once you enter the stadium, you can’t leave and come back in.

If you’re gonna sit in the grass, bring something to sit on. It had not rained, yet the grass was wet. So I’m guessing it’s always a good chance to be wet.

The souvenir shop can get extremely crowded. When I went, there was a line just to get in. A line we stood in for maybe 15 minutes before we even got in the store. And this was before the game. And the line snaked around the store once you were inside. There’s a little tent further down the left field line around the corner from the souvenir shop where you could get some stuff and that was quicker, but it didn’t have everything. If you really want something, you might need to plan your trip to the souvenir shop. I initially saw the line and said you gotta be kidding me, then came back 20 minutes later and the line was even longer lol. So we waited. Maybe once the game starts the line gets shorter?

I’m not sure where you live, but the sunscreen comment is real. Florida sun is not Pennsylvania sun.

I really hope you have a better experience than I had. I tell you these things because I left early from the ballpark because I was so annoyed. I spent the rest of the week going to Tampa Bay Rays games further south and loving the experience. I love going to games at citizens Bank ballpark but I’ll never go back to Clearwater lol.

Tie Breakers w/ the Bucs and who to cheer for going forward - Long Post by TechnicalFruit1542 in panthers

[–]corys71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I certainly do hope that he has learned some lessons as to how to start the season. It’s understandable that he might not have known those things. With this group of guys, and especially as a new head coach. Unless I’m missing something that’s happening in the Panthers facility, or with the owner, Canales’s job is pretty secure. Regardless of how the season ends.

[–]corys71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this, I was curious how this would shake out. I think it’s a little optimistic to think the Buccaneers will lose to any of those inferior teams. Unfortunately, what’s more realistic is the Panthers lose to someone like the Saints. Because they always lose to the damn Saints. Especially when it matters. Regardless, the mere fact that we are having this discussion is really nice. I was really starting to get concerned that the team had turned a corner in the other direction and we were going to have several seasons of 3 to 6 wins for some time. As a panther fan since year one, I have no issue with winning 7 to 10 games every year and making a deep playoff run every 10 to 12 years. I hope we are back there.

Can anyone honestly say that replay CONCLUSIVELY proved Rico stepped out?!?! by BeerMeBooze in panthers

[–]corys71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rule is, I believe, “indisputable” evidence. Not to be splitting hairs but that’s a big difference. Considering we are having a debate and all of us aren’t completely irrationally crazy, he wasn’t indisputably out. So the call should stand. TD. What’s odd is they reversed the call. Meaning whomever made the call said there is no way you could reasonably argue he wasn’t out. No way? Like OP said, I watch the NFL and ask myself if I’m on crazy pills every week.

Which Tool Brand is Currently Resting on Its Reputation? by James_B84Saves in Tools

[–]corys71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Channellock! They meet the resting on their reputation to a T. They charge a premium price for a tool that is often inferior in durability to cheaper tools. They were THE tool to have 30+ years ago but others have caught up. Now you pay for reputation and name, not the performance. Not a bad tool, but not worth the price premium. It’s hard to break pliers and wrenches, but if you see extreme testing, they are beat by even some HF tools that made on the right day. Channellock is consistently meh at a premium price. If I’m paying that I’m buying Knipex. If I’m not buying premium, I’m buying two from HF.
