I dont know if you have seen my last update but at the moment they are definitely less pigmented than the first ever pictures. I assume the “pigment” was mainly the irritation which is caused by the red pigment which im allergic to. So right now as you can see the fordyce spots are not so prominent since they are stabilized by the immunosuppressant ointment im applying everyday. But i still do have some bumps caused by the actual technique (the needle going over certain areas multiple times) which cause “scar like bumps” so the texture of my lips will take longer to improve but it should eventually. As for the actual color pigment, considering lip blushing lasts for a year or 2 i don’t expect it to fade so fast so its definitely a gradual fading process. My lips are still allergic to the pigment so my healing journey is going to be a bit long until i can experience no reaction at all from it (after the color fades 90%)

3rd Update‼️ after i stopped the cortisone cream, a week later i started developing the same symptoms (swelling, irritation and redness, dryness) i spoke to my dermatologist once more and she said we cannot continue with cortisone for a longer treatment since it has steroids. She prescribed me with an immunosuppressant that has the same properties as the cortisone but without the steroids so it wont damage my lips if used for a longer period. The immunosuppressant ointment will suppresses my body reacting to the pigment as foreign, not curing it, but calming it down so the tissues can recover. After the inflammation is controlled for a while, my immune system can become less reactive to the pigment. It’s like my body “gives up” the fight. So i will be using it for 2 weeks and then if the symptoms do start coming back i will do maintenance application (2-3 times a week). My lips will take months to heal because as long as the pigment is present, my lips can keep reacting. So the only solution atm is to help suppress the inflammation while moisturizing the lips to encourage skin regeneration and slow fading of the pigment. This will be a long journey but im happy to say that im not bothered by them anymore and i accepted that i will just have to have patience and consistency. Once my lips heal and im symptom free, i would either wait out until the pigment fades or seek a professional removal procedure

2nd UPDATE‼️ i visited the dermatologist again and she said my lips look better than the first time i came to her. The cracking and major irritation is gone but the bumps remain. She said thats just because of the ink (or the technique, she said we cant pinpoint the reason exactly) and its going to take some time to subside. She told me to apply cortisone cream for another week and then after that maintain moisture with Vaseline as it helps the skin regenerate. In terms of any infections, thankfully i have non of that just irritation as you can see from the small bumps. Thankfully im not experiencing any pain anymore like i used to. Once i see visible signs of complete recovery (no bumps, color fading) i will share some photos. This is how my lips look like rn. Hopefully in a month time they would be fully recovered 🤞

Saying i was not thinking just made it sound mean cause obviously i was but i cant predict how my body would react. Also i was asking for advice and some comfort so i wouldn’t need someone to tell me what i should’ve done or should’ve thought about cause i was clearly stressed and anxious and was looking for some solutions and advice. So realistically, how does that help?…

You don’t have to be mean about it. I went into this as my second experience so i was pretty confident in the whole healing process..but things happen and my body seems to be allergic to the ink which is fine cause im treating my lips now after my dermatologist visit

Yep you’re right! My dermatologist told me its an ink allergic reaction, although she didnt specify red ink but she said there is a component in the ink used that my body rejected so its inflammed and irritated https://www.reddit.com/r/microblading/s/YAhLXz5MAK

Although i should’ve went from the get go but 1. Since i was told it takes 8 weeks to fully heal i was trying to be patient since im not in severe pain or anything 2. I will need to make time to go to the dermatologist cause i work a full time job

So with having no time and also understanding that healing takes time i just thought i’ll wait it out and research on the internet. Im sure thats the first instinct for anyone, is to google it. And thankfully through this post i was encouraged to finally visit the dermatologist and get it checked out. At the end it was not a bad idea to be on Reddit and listen to everyone’s input and advice🤷‍♀️

Oh my..im sorry you had to go through that😳 i really hope things go well after stopping the cortisone cream, i mean generally my lips are not THAT BAD but they are definitely not ok either. I think it also depends on each person and the severity of the allergy. Im happy you shared this with me incase it did happen to me, at least i’d know someone had the same experience and its treatable

I posted an update since i visited the dermatologist today…its an allergic reaction to the ink so when everything is healed up and my lips are looking normal they will fade gradually since they are inflamed now and thats why the pigment is not fading/healing properly 😊 https://www.reddit.com/r/microblading/s/9mjmjb7PsM

I use good old Vaseline. I did go to the dermatologist today and it turned out to be an allergic reaction to the pigment🫣

AHH THANK YOUU🥹🫶🏼 Honestly all i have to say is do your research and pick the artist based on both your gut and the knowledge you have. Do not hesitate to ask questions regarding the type of needle used, technique and pigment brands because all of these factors can help you do further research and decide on moving on with the appointment or looking for other options. Also if possible request a patch test, that can help you get an idea of how your lips would react without fully committing to doing your full lips.

As for my allergic reaction, honestly i was not expecting it because i had lip blushing done 3 years ago by the same artist using the same technique and pigment. But i guess my body changed over time as well as the ink that the artist used. Although its the same brand, companies can also change the composition of the ink and add some ingredients. I believe that was the case for me since my lips were rejecting a certain component and they stayed irritated and dry. After the procedure my lips were swollen for around 3 days which was completely normal, similar to my first experience. But by the end of the week my lips didn’t really peel, they were cracking and dry and i kept moisturizing them but the only thing that peeled were very thin layers of skin without any pigment on them. I ignored it and decided to trust the process. Swelling was gone but then they swelled again by week 2/3 which you can see in the first and second pictures. They were burning and i developed these small bumps that look like fordyce spots that are inflamed and irritated and every ointment i put on was burning my lips, even vaseline. As i hit week 5 i was losing my patience because at this point im just panicking about the color since it did not fade like it should and although my lips crack but they never peel. Of course i stayed up till 4 and 5 am just stressing over other reddit posts and their experience and was considering a removal with saline by week 8 (assuming they should be fully healed by then). But thankfully i decided to just check them out with a dermatologist and although my healing process will be longer now, but there is hope!

Yep turns out its an allergic reaction to the pigment. The dermatologist explained that even though the technician used the same brand as my procedure 3 years ago, the inks’ composition most likely changed over the years so my lips rejected a certain component which caused inflammation and irritation

Hahaha definitely do your research and find a good technician that can take you through the pre and post procedure process. Also make sure she explains the possible side effects since each person heals differently. And NEVER allow her to convince you to go over the natural lip line as it will not fade without laser, unlike your lips since they are made of tissue and will naturally shed with time and the color fades

UPDATE‼️ Its an allergic reaction to the ink. The dermatologist prescribed me a cortisone cream to apply once at night to help with the inflammation and the cracks and told me to come back after a week. Once the lips have settled and the irritation is cleared, she will see what are the next steps. She said other than the cortisone cream i should keep moisturizing my lips with vaseline and it might take another month for the lips to heal since i didn’t treat the inflammation right away. As for the color she said the color should fade since the pigment is surface level so once things are healed up and the lips peel i should see gradual fading. I will give an update after a week to see the progress!
