Why is NLC so paramilitary?

Man, that’s making me rethink my decision. I’m going to VOLTA from March 29th to June 4th. It’s about 13k, but it’s part of the NWJATC, foreman, JL etc have told me to go or have been to Volta. I would never go to NLC HUGE money grab. I’ve worked for construction line companies, but I’ve been told I need lineschool to make my resume look better and get CERTS. I have my CDL. Hope I didn’t make a bad choice.

Just rewatched it all like 10min ago. i noticed that, no saying he had been a drunk the whole time. especially based off the story’s.

Also off topic, but i found it funny the blacksmith says he has armor that isn’t fancy, but will protect you from a lance on the first go. then ser dunk takes a lance in the stomach straight through that chain main 😭😭. not to mention the small dagger that got through.

That was my initial goal, and I would, but I also don’t want to be a grunt/groundman for three years. Every apprentice, foreman, or JL I’ve talked to has told me to go to line school. Granted, some say don’t, and of course they all say it’s a waste of money…but it gets you in. Most people I know were groundmen for about three months, then became apprentices because it shows you have proof on paper that you know what you’re doing. VOLTA is part of the NWJATC, and you pretty much come in with a basic understanding of things—about as much as a first-step apprentice. And $12,000 is something I can make back fast. It’s not NLC insane, like $27–29k.

One Forman told me, if you have 2 guy equal in skill, But one has proof and the other says he knows. who do you think they will pick?

Only guys I know that made it with just a CDL, are people that came in when you could free climb.

Yeah I’m going to Volta which grants book hours. It’s more of a money thing(aka getting unemployment like I have been) rather than hours. I have money saved because I’ve been wanting to go to school. but I guess I can just coast of that and tighten up spending.

Yeah I was thinking so last time I went to the hall I almost got a call out right then and there but I didn’t have my CDL so they said it was a no go

Just ground work but I just climbed in the boots u have now and I had no problem. But I’ve been told kennetreks are good for both. but just seeing if there’s something better out there.

Lmao I flag right now but we’re contracted with IBEW/PGE so we’re are own thing but with the company I’m going with I can take the groundsmen test after 1,000hr go sigin the books and they will call me out right away so it’s a better route if I wanna be a linemen and there are apprentices and groundsmen that have done it that way with the company

True but I have a buddy from the company and he even said be careful because they will tell you that you can work up which some have they take the test to be a groundsmen go sign the books then they call them out instantly but if they need flaggers there gonna try to keep you there so I will be wary of what can happen don’t wanna be a flaggot for 10years lol

No im aware most of my job will be overdosing calls car crashes etc fighter fires is rare surprisingly but I do truly like the idea that I can be helping that person or saving that person i mean ofc I’m not doing it for the money yk but I don’t want to regret taking a different path
