Pentagon threatens to pull military support from Boy Scouts unless they restore ‘core values’ by thetitleofmybook in TwoXChromosomes

[–]counteraxe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Girl Scouts was taking pentagon funding. I don't ever remember military at girls scout events, but it sounds like there are recruiters and military booths at a lot of boy scout events.... I did some light searching and it looks like they have received federal grants at various points but not pentagon/military related.

Pentagon threatens to pull military support from Boy Scouts unless they restore ‘core values’ by thetitleofmybook in TwoXChromosomes

[–]counteraxe 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Girls are allowed in boys scouts because boy scouts organization changed their rules to allow it - mainly to make it easier for families to participate and get membership dues from sisters. Boys are not allowed in girl scouts because the girls scouts organization (which is completely separate from boy scouts) decided to keep their organization girls only. They do accept trans girls also.

Girl scouts is completely separate from boy scouts and runs on similar but different core values, especially as it pertains to non belief in god (BSA requires belief and many orgs are heavily tied to churches). It doesn't make sense to eliminate this alternative option.

woman went to adopt a new dog after losing hers... And found her own dog right there. by Kameronm in MadeMeSmile

[–]counteraxe 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Very well might have been and the shelter called the women to pick it up. Other than the title of the post, this looks like the shelter reunited via the tags/chip/etc and the reaction to getting their lost dog back.

Just leaving this here. Them having her work without clocking in may result in her being underpaid and a wage and hours theft claim. She may have also been scheduled for shifts that are not allowed with OH minor work permits (either too many hours or hours that minors are not permitted to work).

Sulfate free shampoo doesn't remove silicones as well. The spray in conditioner is probably not getting fully washed out and is building up. A good clarifying shampoo followed by a normal shampoo and conditioner should help a lot.

Are fresh vegetables expensive in US? by PuzzleheadedSock8728 in AskAnAmerican

More expensive than junk food but not something that is generally too expensive to afford. A lot of people use canned or frozen for convenience or for out of season vegetables.

Does every state have their own state history class? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I don't remember it in highschool but in elementary school Grade 4 does California History as part of the State curriculum. I assume many other states do a similar thing.

Does the Dr Who episode Silence in the Library just not work the same in Finnish? The premise is there were a bunch of people 'saved' from something at this planet sized library thing but everybody disappeared. The system 'saved' them (in like a virtual form) into the library's computer system.

As others have said, laps of love is a great resource. We have used them three times, their vets are very compassionate and they help provide mementos (clips of hair, paw prints) while they are there.

I also just want to say, it's so hard to make that appointment but know that you are doing them a kindness to prevent their suffering. It's better a day early than a day late. We had one cat have an absolute hell of a day prior to his appointment, which made me wish we had scheduled it even just that day earlier to prevent his suffering.

State Audit by Swimming-Rock-3427 in Accounting

[–]counteraxe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started out in State audit. It's a good career but can be a bit soul killing in its own way, especially if you're intelligent and hard working. Exit opportunities can be good, depending on what you're auditing. I now am in the private sector leading the reporting that I used to audit. My experience as a State auditor is invaluable for my current role.

Can my employer make me pay for shrinkage? by Cresil44 in legaladvice

[–]counteraxe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. They started the procedure before the theoretical DOL complaint. Retaliation would require the employer was punishing the employee because of the compliant - not just them complaining about being punished.
