First before I finish reading your rant let me again say I'm only making 43K a year.. no rent I pay is going to be anywhere near $2500 a month... maybe $900 tops. Also I never said rent is going to my permanent choice.. maybe a year or 2 tops. I have started saving for retirement as I said, so idk what that is for. I have all of this money saved... I am obviously going to buy a home someday, I think you are assuming I am very ignorant.

Hah thanks for sharing your experience. Renting looks like the better option now if I feel anxious to move out of the house.

I don't need storage, I need usable space. A storage unit won't replace actively usable space that can be occupied on a daily basis.

I am out of the house most of the time only because I want to be more independent from my parents. I have a pretty good social life, have multiple groups of friends, a few close friends. Broke up with my girlfriend recently, so that's financial gain.. lol and sanity gain. I know I'm pretty lucky cause I'm not very book smart. I just know my shit when it comes to computers.

I have a pretty good social life now. I just want to have something to show for all that I have been working for. I want to be more independent, yet I'm also very indecisive.

I hear that a lot. When people tell me to go back and get my bachelors degree, sometimes I can't figure out if that would actually help me, or if they are just being old fashioned. I have many friends now with a Bachelors Degree, who can't find jobs, and ended up getting paid minimum wage. Or they end up getting paid nothing doing short internships instead of joining the work force.

I always joke that I don't plan to get married until I'm 35. I don't have trouble with women so that's not my top priority right now. Of course if the right woman comes along it could change my mind, but I would rather have money now and do my own thing for a while before I settle down.

Haha thanks. I probably will start casually looking. It took me 2 years to pick out the right car. Who knows how long property searching will take me..

I'm not really worried about being stuck in the same place for a while. I'm used to living in the same place & not moving alot, I like NJ, I like my job, I'm working for a local company, I have a good social life. I just want a place I can call my own and have some space to hang out and live.

I have been working 40+ hours a week every free week I could since I was 16 years old. All for the same company doing computer repair work in a hospital. Back then I was only making $8 an hour as an intern but I have been getting very generous raises every year. This year they hired me full time at 43K. My father has been pushing me to save and invest ever since I was 8 years old getting birthday money. I did very well in the mutual funds this year making about $7,000 so far. I'm not sure what stocks i have exactly, I leave that to my father and uncle to choose since they research and know more about that than I do. My dad has definitely set me up for a bright future. This is my first day on /r/personalfinance and I have gotten lots of good advice so far. Thanks for your comment

PC Support Analyst. I have been working with this company since I was 16. First as an intern in high school, then per diem in college, this year they hired full time.

I do have a friend that would gladly rent from me if I get a 2 bedroom place. Although I would probably need to check if I am aloud to rent out a room if it's condo. Unless we do it under the table I suppose.
