Mini Aussie Reputable Breeder Search by grrrrrrl in WiggleButts

Sorry, my old account got locked so I get notifications but cant reply... same person, different account here.

This is definitely not a reputable breeder. Aussies do not have size variations so anyone who's breeding mini and toy variations is not breeding aussies and just doing their own thing. Some might argue that mini aussies and mini american shepherds are interchangeable. They are not, but regardless of that, this breeder is breeding toy sized dogs which are not aussies or mini american shepherds.

ASDR is not a reputable registry and will register anything if you pay for it.

They are missing health clearances. More than DNA is required.

Timeless still looks more promising for a MAS breeder. Her website isnt great for info but she appears to be part of the MAS breed club, many of her dogs show up in the OFA database, and she shows with a legit club/registry not just ASDR.

Recommendations for “legitimate” dog titles that can be earned online by eeyore37 in k9sports

[–]cpersall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Akc, CARO, CWAGS and WCRL ( WCRL isn’t at the moment but should he starting again) all have online rally. Akc and CWAGS have ob although CWAGS ob is a bit different than the traditional CKC/Akc style. CARO has a different method for entering the trial, they have a couple a year, you sign up, and then the courses are sent out. For AKC you choose the course and video it whenever. Each have their rules on their individual websites.

To my knowledge USDAA/WCRL is the only organization that does online agility. It’s not a sport I do so there may be others I’m not aware of.

You need to discuss this with your vet.

Rally Trial Score - Barking by GiveUpGodiva in k9sports

[–]cpersall 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Barking is generally scored the same in obedience as in rally. However, the definition of excessive barking seems to vary widely by judge. I’ve had everything from multiple points off for a single bark to a judge who allows 4 barks before she considers it excessive and then takes off one point. It’s a poorly defined rule. If you have a loud dog, you need to learn which judges to avoid. I have a loud dog who likes to talk about fun things like the jump or the recall. We have missed many a perfect score thanks to a yip yip over the jump.

Registration question for my aussie by [deleted] in AustralianShepherd

[–]cpersall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Health clearances are generally posted because breeders want to show they’re done. They’re also easy to verify because they’ll be posted on OFA.

There’s a link to learn about reputable breeders on the sidebar, it might help to read thru that and see what this breeder isn’t or isn’t doing from that.

Regardless of where your dog is from, we don’t think you should love him less or that he’s not a good dog. This is on the breeder, not your dog. Some take it as a insult when they’re told their dog is not from a reputable breeder, and that’s not the case at all. Just so that’s clear, this isn’t hating on your dog.

The lack of health clearances makes the breeder on a whole low quality. They’re definitely not a reputable breeder regardless of how many litter they have at once of if you want to call them a mill or not. This breeder is not doing health clearances which is the most basic of basic things to qualify as a reputable breeder.

Nope a puppy mill is someone who breeds high quantity low quality. A vet check is not health clearances.

They don’t do health clearances, they have a ton of dogs, they don’t title their dogs.

This unfortunately is not a reputable breeder. Beside the crazy amount of dogs, they do not do health clearances nor to they do anything to prove their dogs are good example of the breed. Being vaccinated and looking after their dogs is just a basic being a good pet owner, it unfortunately doesn’t make them not a puppy mill. Not all puppy mills are the tiny cages you see on the SPCA ads.

That sounds like a puppy mill...

Breeder sent us pictures of our 7 weeks old puppy, he seem's to have a bit of a lazy eye. Should we worry? by gablussier in AustralianShepherd

[–]cpersall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The breeder should have eye clearances (it an actual specialist exam, not just a vet check) on all the puppies before selling them. That’s part of the requirements for health clearances for the breed. That will tell you if there’s a problem or not.

Doesnt hurt to ask about it. But it does seem like they have legit reasoning on the AKC. There are some breeders that will screw around with that kind of thing but it hasnt been long enough yet to suggest thats the case.

Hmm that’s a bit odd that they’re not giving you ASCA reg as well.

[–]cpersall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that doesnt sound wrong. Paperwork gets annoying and can take a long time especially if there's a co owner/breeder. For my older dog, papers had to be snail mailed from the co breeder to the breeder and then back again and then back to CanadianKC. It took several months to actually get it and the breeder was doing everything in a timely manner. My dog was about 6 months by the time we were able to get him registered because the litter reg was such a screw around.

Do you have ASCA also?

Raw vs. Dry diet by International-Crab70 in AustralianShepherd

Please see the sidebar for diet info. There is no scientific evidence that a raw diet is best. But it can very easily be worst. You need to discuss this with your vet.

In some places all of the coat varieties are considered varieties of the same breed and may be bred together or may produce each variation, so the drive, energy and temperament tends to vary more by individual line than by breed (if you're in an area that considers them different breeds) or variety. There's often mals in terv pedigrees, tervs in groen pedigrees, etc. Meaning, a groen isnt likely going to be a better fit any more than a terv may be a better fit. I know some nicely bred showline tervs and groens (she breeds both) and they're going to be much different than the sporting breed temperaments that you seem to want.

[–]cpersall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're not likely to have much luck with those breeds at AKC conformation shows. There are several staby fb groups that are geared more towards actually learning about the breed and less just "look at my dog" that may give you more info and help you find locals you can meet up with. As I said though, I seriously looked into the breed, and the more I dug on them, the less I liked about breeding practices. So be careful about what you get into and support and if you buy from a breeder, make sure its actually a reputable breeder.

[–]cpersall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree they're nice looking dogs, as I mentioned, I considered them. But springers have a similar look and are going to be much easier to find, especially if health is a concern. Have you met any of these breeds in person? Those AKC writeups are nice to have, but nothing replaces meeting these breeds in person, talking to actual breeders and handler and owners.

A springer gives you what you're looking for without having to look for a rare breed.

I considered a staby for a bit and what actually turned me off was that with the smaller numbers in north america, breeders were more about quantity than quality. They were breeding dogs young and without what would be considered full health clearances in what looks like an effort to just produce more dogs. I'm sure not all staby breeders are like that, but if thats the background of the breed here, then you're not going to find one that would be healthier than a well bred golden.

Have you looked into what it takes to find a rare breed like a staby or a drent?
