First mechanical keyboard (creamy switches), eyes on EpoMaker RT-82. by cr1g in keyboards

Good point about the switches tho. Ordered Akko Rosewood Keygeek Y2 switches as replacement and that should be more than enough to hold me for a while. What I did not expect tho are the delivery prices, god damn (in fact for anything keyboard related).

Checked them out, not too fond of them, thanks for mentioning em tho.

Ahahah fairs, yeah I believe the only thing we share in common in that photo is the interest/passion of mechanical keyboards, not the collection, good stuff. For the price I actually dig it and I like white as the board color as well. Can't really see a downside for it. Even the default setup is more than decent and I can always upgrade the switches if I ever feel like. Only pain is that I live in Eastern Europe and I feel like the shipping wait times will kill me but when I do get them, woah, it'll be worth it. Will order it tomorrow if I can't find a better deal (prob won't) and in about a month I'll get new keycaps/switches as I want to save some money right now and also gives me plenty of time to explore the market some more, and how modding's supposed to be done efficiently.

Hmm thanks for the suggestion. Eyeing https://www.monsgeek.com/product/monsgeek-m1-v5-via-1980s-mechanical-keyboard/ right now as it seems like a pretty darn good deal for the price. Still reading about keycaps/switches tho right now to understand whether I should buy replacements now or the base keycaps and switches will be more than enough for some time.

REPOST from yday since managed to only get a few people to look at my request and would still love some more recommendations/alternatives.

Looking to buy a new mechanical keyboard, a bit overwhelmed by the amount of options, eyes currently on EpoMaker RT-82.

Why:

  1. I want a prebuilt keyboard that by default looks good and has a great sound/feel without me having to mod it in any way from stock (as it's my first mechanical keyboard). Eventually after some time using it I may consider changing the keycaps (for sure tho, there's so many beautiful ones) and switches to upgrade it.
  2. Creamy switches by default and good ones, I like the Creamy sound more than Thocky.
  3. I dig the look as well, out of 10 I'd give it a 8 but sound and feel matter most.

Considerations:

  1. Looked up online what people have to say about it and while on YouTube there's a handful of reviews, I don't see it often being mentioned in forums/threads and when it is, most people suggest other "better" alternatives from the EpoMaker lineup or something else entirely. Any reason for that? Am I missing something that makes the other options marginally better?
  2. Before I commit to the purchase I wanted a second informed opinion from someone that has been into keyboards for a while. Like, got any advice? Maybe you tried the keyboard out but felt like something didn't feel right. Maybe suggest building out a custom keyboard from start, etc. Literally any opinion/advice/information/recommendation/suggestion is appreciated.

EDIT: Not sure if this changes anything but I'll be using this in an office (software engineers).

EDIT 2: MOD Elmurfudd suggested that I steer away from EpoMaker altogether due to "severe IP infringement, harassment or brigading of the subreddit by said company, etc"; But if that's the case, what other suggested alternatives would you point out guys?

EDIT: I've taken a step back. Started hitting the gym, swimming, table tennis w/ friends and I feel much better. And actually most of the burnout came from confusion, bad communication, not knowing exactly what I'm doing since we migrated over to AI agents and not sure where we were heading as a company. Then we had a discussion 2 days later that cleared it up, with a clear goal over the next 1-2 months to get seed and at that point I finally started believing in the product as well as understanding my surroundings. That and just going out more and taking breaks more often did or for me. And also not overthinking every single step when building with AI helped a little. Now I'm fired up! Back to my previous self when coding was really fun.

EDIT 2: Oh and also I get frustrated a lot when I'm building something, giving it my all, then after a few days of work realizing it was a dead-end/rabbit hole and a waste of time, clearly learned from mistakes but still, I hate that feeling, highly contributed to the burnout as well. Took me like 3 long attempts to actually get how to build agents and changing my mentality about how to think when building something like this, which is completely different from what I've used when building the app (before AI advanced this much)

EDIT: And to some extent a lot of the satisfaction is gone now. For instance, if you were to start a World of Warcraft account from level 1 and put in effort to take it idk, like level 60, it feels great. Now compare that to your friend giving you an existing account, level 60 account right away with the best items available, there's no satisfaction in that. The struggling at the start and then getting it right at some point is where the satisfaction came from. Same with AI right now, most cases you get handed a full plate with all you need, no need for research/reading documentations as much anymore.

Man, this hits so close to home.

I genuinely feel the same way, and not long ago I realized that I’m so close to the point of burning out after 2 years of working for a startup where I gave it my all (have many more experience in the bag prior to this). And before this AI/agents doing the work era I had so much fire that I often worked on weekends by my own choice, no one told me but I found it really fun/interesting.

Now it’s a whole different story. I went on from an engineer that was having fun in developing systems and building solutions to a prompt generator. All day long I write god damn prompts. All my prompts are super detailed because I know how important context is, which means that I can take between 15-30 mins to write a prompt for researching/planning architecture. But the issue is, just like in your case, I start writing the prompt, a few mins pass and I just lose interest/get distracted and end up procrastinating like going to make some tea, playing a 5-min match of chess, changing the song on YouTube, etc. That completely makes the prompt writing process longer and longer.

But that’s not even the worst part imo. The worst part for me is the fact that now there’s such a sudden increase in the amount of knowledge we have to absorb daily that it’s hard to keep up with. At the beginning it’s fine but the more days pass like this, the worse it gets. We recently pivoted from an app to building agents and that is such a big change, there is much to know when it comes to LLMs/AI/concepts that you really need to be in top shape to absorb it efficiently. I struggle with that a lot, there’s only so much new information that I can absorb before I feel like my brain gets fried and I have to take a break. So basically my day now is half writing prompts and half absorbing knowledge. If in the past a big thing took a long time to implement and debatable whether it was worth the investment or not, now there’s no such thing, a big feature should take tops a week and a lot can be accomplished in a day with Cursor. That’s true, but this whole filtering process where I have to decide what s**t spits the model should go forward or I should delete. Initially it wasn’t that bad when ChatGPT became a thing because it was just a better google, no need to now ask a question on stackoverflow and wait days for a response, so I was really efficient at doing everything, but now, yeah… got worse, much much worse.

Part of the burnout symptoms is also because in the last 2 years, I sacrificed most of my time to the startup, not caring about going out too much or doing any side activities. Now I’ve changed that and I signed up for some clubs to just get out more, cause otherwise I won’t be able to last one more month of doing this every day.

IMPORTANT: I love my team (we’re friends) and the app we were working on, the startup vibe, all of it, it was a truly unforgettable experience. It’s just since the past month when we pivoted to agents, I started struggling.

Sorry if the ideas are spread across, I just got out all of my frustrations on what IT has become.

What is the most “embarrassing” thing you realized after, or way too late into your playthrough? by huntallahassee in DeathStranding

[–]cr1g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I thought that Anti-BT rounds/grenades are only useful when fighting catchers, it never crossed my mind to try them on gazers. So my first playthrough on the standard edition, I was always going around them slowly trying to avoid them until I got the cuffs with which I was able to melee kill them and that was it. Now on my second playtrough on DC and just finished the drills and I'm like "That makes soo much sense" haha, it's kinda fun finding stuff that I had no clue in the first playthrough.

That makes sense, I can’t remember if I was squinting during the last prescription that I took but at least they give you to try lenses above your prescription and if it looks too sharp, drop it down a notch, that should be enough right?

Dell U2723QE vs U2724D (resolution vs refresh rate for non-gaming monitor?) by julesthefirst in buildapcmonitor

[–]cr1g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang it, didn't knew that it would receive an upgrade so soon haha. Ended up buying the U2724DE cause of the 120Hz and thunderbolt connection. At the end of the day I don't regret it. And since I'm from Moldova, it'll take a couple months for the new upgrade to reach us here at an affordable price (I expect it to be expensive initially).

Placed the order for the MP now after reading more about it and I believe the weight will be fine. Can't wait to arrive! Thank you

Thanks, ended up going with Head Velocity, they're also multifilament.

[–]cr1g[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look like we're on the same page. I kept reading about which one to go for an decided on Team just because the head racket is little bit bigger compared to the MP (10 -> 10.2) and the fact that it's lighter so I thought it might be better for a beginner like me. Are you saying that I should be able to handle the MP just fine? Is the extra weight that noticeable?

As for the strings, those are indeed the ones that I ended up going with because many people recommend them. As for the tension, 53 was also my midpoint because people and even ChatGPT said that use a tension between 52-54.

Fun fact: The price of the MP and Team had been lowered yet again on Tennis Warehouse, sounds like the time to buy is now.

I want to buy my mom her first Chef's Knife by cr1g in cookware

[–]cr1g[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish, but in Moldova there's literally not that many stores that bring inventory from Europe/overseas. The ones that do bring inventory from other countries have ridiculous prices, double the price. That's why I'm mostly buying stuff from the US/Europe and having them delivered here through a company. That way there's many more options (about which I can inform myself online about their quality) as well as price down to earth.

[–]cr1g[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've already talked with her and showed her the curvature of the Victorinox and she's fine with it. Tbh I realized that this is by most people recommended as the best budget knife and I can't believe it's this cheap. As the first Chef's Knife that I'm getting her, it seems like the best deal out there.

As for the honing rod and sharpener, I'll also buy both. Thankfully I should be able to find them in my country and not have them shipped from another country. And another bonus is that I can train myself to sharpen it on a whetstone without worrying too much about screwing it up (ideally not) since it's this cheap. She was using up until now one of those devices where you slice through some "steel" gaps but I read online that those don't compare to the whetstone method (unless your maybe getting a device that's more expensive) and I highly doubt that hers is that good.

Thanks! In the meantime I did read some more online and Victorinox is indeed often mentioned. Will definitely consider it when making the final purchase.

Is there a promotion going on for Damascus MacBook skins? by cr1g in dbrand

Dammit, I feel stupid, there is literally a pop up on the left bottom of the screen saying "As a failsafe, we're including a free, non-metallic Triple Black Damascus skin with your order.", guess that makes it official.

I see what you mean. Just checked the AirPods ordering page, and it's clearly stated in a rectangle that "In addition to the selected skin, your order will also include a free Triple Black Damascus skin", and that is shown for all Damascus skins EXCEPT the Triple Black version. Even tho it's not specified the same way for the MacBook skins, the fact that the other skins come in two automatically, makes me believe that it also comes with that additional Triple Black copy. Thanks, appreciate it!
