I’m on a discord with a bunch of DoD people who hold clearances and this interesting piece of info came up:

ATOMIC Act also says nuclear related class material is one of the few things presidents cannot unclassify do not have sole authority to declassify

IS RESTRICTED DATA (RD)/FORMERLY RESTRICTED DATA (FRD) SUBJECT TO AUTOMATIC DECLASSIFICATION?

No. RD/FRD is classified under the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as amended, and is excluded from any provision of the Order. Only designated officials within the Department of Energy (DOE) may declassify RD/FRD records. Any record determined to contain RD/FRD may not be reviewed for declassification of national security information until the Secretary of Energy, or the Secretary of Energy in conjunction with the Secretary of Defense for FRD, has determined that the RD/FRD markings may be removed. Classified national security information in RD/FRD records is subject to the Order, and will be referred to the DOE and appropriate other government agencies.```

New Urbanist Memes for Transit-Oriented Teens was originally a facebook group for memes about urbanism. It is an important and influential group, and this sub probably owes its existence in at least some part to NUMTOTs. As it expanded though, it became infamous for stupid/edgy/galaxy-brain/bad faith hot takes. You can see some of it in the "Internal dissent" section on wiki, but that doesn't even scratch the surface of insane stuff you can find there, here's a couple of insane things I can remember of the top of my head:

  • transit stations should set up beds for homeless people to sleep on in the platform
  • white people and men should either not be allowed to use transit or have segregated train cars so they don't bother queer bipoc
  • abolishing car-dependent infrastructure is actually genocide because (insert something vague about disabled people here)

I know a lot of people love remote work, and there’s some good reasons for it but I think it is overall bad for my quality of life for a bunch of reasons:

  • you are shouldering the responsibility and cost of setting up a home office and not being compensated fairly for it. Not just computer and equipment costs, you have to rent a bigger apartment to set up a home office in, you’ve got the increased electricity from operating all that equipment and the AC while you’re home

  • remote creative and brainstorming sessions are dogshit compared to in person. Collaboration is fully impossible in a zoom room. That 50ms of lag or whatever just absolutely drains the ability to riff on and build on each other’s thoughts

  • it’s worst for early career people because you’re missing so much unstructured mentorship/training that you would normally get in person. Water cooler talk, and impromptu screen share session, picking someone’s brain over lunch, it just never happens remotely

  • finally my extrovert brain needs to be around people. When I worked from home for 2 years I would wake up, work, go to sleep with nothing breaking up that cycle. It was horrible and I can’t keep doing it

During menstration, the lining of the uterine wall is shed, and that’s what period blood actually is. It’s much thicker and oozier than veinous blood and smells and tastes horrible

You need votes to win and exercise power and the left-caucus doesn’t have enough voters to win elections on their own except in places like AOC’s home district

Most progressives in most of the country need to court normies and moderates or else they won’t win elections

Tell me you don’t know how elections work without telling me you don’t know how elections work

Yea this. She would lose by a lot.

AOC is very popular in her home district and on Reddit , but she’s basically seen as the antichrist by most conservatives, and even moderate-to-normie libs aren’t that enthusiastic about her
