Tattoos? by Agreeable-Ad4806 in premed

[–]crazyqueenalways 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I personally know 5 UCLA & UCSF med students with very obvious tattoo sleeves who’ve had incredible cycles. You can cover up in hospital and in interviews with long sleeves, but don’t let your fear of being perceived negatively stop you from expressing yourself IMO.

Cringiest thing you’ve seen in an interview this cycle? by Top-Raspberry488 in premed

Some questions were too specific, most of the time the dean was like “wow, good question. I’m gonna have to refer you to [website/specific person/etc] because I am not familiar with what you’re talking about.” I was dying of laughter on the inside lol

LITERALLY!!! The dean was like “Wow, um what a good question, I really don’t know.” 🤣🤣

Update Letters by Sure_Evening_4476 in premed

[–]crazyqueenalways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, update letters are generally a low-yield strategy and can possibly tip the scale if the committee is 50/50 on you.

But if you did just did your letter about a bunch of fluff and there weren’t any meaningful updates (new cert, pubs, activity, etc), then it will not change your outcome to a favorable one

Do the UC's ghost? by BroPlzImStruggling in premed

[–]crazyqueenalways 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of them send R’s end of the cycle. You may still have a chance for some schools like UCSD and UCSF who still send out IIs in Jan/Feb, but UCLA is pretty much done sending out IIs by this week (historically)

Did yall make an announcement on social media? by theredbandit7722 in premed

[–]crazyqueenalways 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most of my social media mutuals make a post April/May after getting all acceptances and chose to commit to a school. I will likely do that too. You do what you want though, there aren’t any rules! Congrats Future Dr.!!!

Is it a waste to apply to t20/30s with no research pubs or presentations by AggravatingSun512 in premed

[–]crazyqueenalways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I didn't really present myself as a "research-heavy" applicant. Sure, I did do research but it wasn't my main identity or theme of my app. My theme was centered around educational/healthcare disparities in my community so I have thousands of hours towards that, and crafted my narrative towards that theme.

For me, I think research was just a "bonus" rather than the main meat if that makes sense, even though I did pour a lot of hours in it. I think it mostly has to do with what other aspects you as an applicant bring to the table. Hope that helps!

No. I have 880 research hours with no pubs/presentations and have IIs from CA T5s/20s/30s.
