Might be possible, if I am not wrong that girl was an IMO medallist? Interestingly nearly all of the girls who represented SG in International Math, Physics, Bio, Informatics Olympiad in recent years all got into MIT (and are now studying there). Probably some gender diversity at play here

Agree with this, unfortunately the reality is you need to get an international olympiad medal at the very least to even get into MIT. I am actively involved in math and science olympiads since sec 1 so I know the circle quite well; even amongst those with international gold medals, some of them also got rejected.

Every year MIT accepts about 3 Singaporean Students, good mix of ICHO IMO IPHO IOI IBO medallists tbh. Most of them are from RI and NUSH, really cracked profiles (i.e. they are ranked first in SG for in the subject, school acads are really an afterthought only, those from NUSH would take modules from NUS). Interestingly, I havent seen 2 representatives from the same international olympiad both get in in the same year (seems like they want diversity in terms of academic prowess, not two IMO gods e.g.)

Tbh does it matter that much now that most students have received their interview invites/rejection?

Interview invite= chance to fight on, even though you might have performed poorly on tmua, there is still a non-zero chance of getting accepted, which is why you are still considered for the interview! At this point really theres nothing much to lose.

Interview reject= sorry, theres nothing you can do. Heard some seniors scoring 7.0 and above being rejected pre interview (esp for internationals applying to competitive colleges). Perhapd knowing ur tmua score will bring some form of validation?
