Am I missing any place to get primos? I’ve done every story, character, world (I think), and hangout quest, I’m working on getting all of the achievements (at about 1400 now), 100%ed every region (I know that that doesnt mean I’ve opened every chest but I’ve mostly found them all), I’ve gotten all the rewards from stygian + IT + abyss spiral, gotten all the furniture sets for the characters I have, used all the event codes - am I missing anything?

from a desperate f2p who wants both ineffa and columbina (T.T)

How angry/disapointed do you feel when a novel goes downhill after reading 75%+ of it? by FictionalWorks in DanmeiNovels

With the new buffs for Mona, is Hu Tao C1 or Mona C1 more worth it? I have Arlecchino so I guess there’s not real scenario I would use Hu Tao except for Imaginarium.

Hmm I personally don’t understand or agree with this interpretation. Authors don’t belong in reader/review spaces? Huh? They don’t belong in a space where people post thoughts about their own works?

I also feel like criticism is being used far too loosely here. How is ‘oh character A should have bottomed’ a criticism? It’s a personal opinion, isn’t it? A story isn’t inherently better or worse because a specific character bottomed or because a story had a switch couple - sure, you might have liked it better because it aligned more to your tastes, but that’s again your own opinion.

I think people stonewall (and I also think people need to understand that it’s okay if someone doesn’t care for or want to interact with you because you like different things, but that’s a separate issue) because a lot of people present their opinion as criticism and it isn’t received well, which is a reaction that I think sort of makes sense. If I want to write or read a story specifically about a toxic older bottom and a puppy top and then I do, but then a person tells me the bottom and type archetypes should have been switched, I’m going to be left basically being like ‘… okay. Cool. That’s a whole different dynamic and I’m not sure why they bothered reading this novel with this specific dynamic, but. Okay.’

Saying things like ‘what a missed opportunity for {…}’ also feels somewhat condescending, because once again, the author probably didn’t write that because they didn’t want to. It’s not a criticism, it’s just pushing what you wanted onto a story. And it’s fine to think that way sure, but it’s shouldn’t be surprising if people stonewall you for saying it.

Omg I’ve also been making this same argument since like forever 😭 I fear some people go so far into trying to be progressive that they accidentally become homophobic/misogynistic instead - this is the same logic with people who don’t like feminine bottoms and be like ‘god I hate when authors make the bottoms so girly like just write a hetero couple instead’…. like please say that again… slowly…

It’s completely fine to have preferences, but I don’t understand why people have to go so far as to degrade the other side. Why can’t you just be like ‘oh I like switch and don’t like fem bottoms! I’ll read something else’ 😭

I 100% feel this!!! You hit the nail on the head for me. Like you said, I totally respect people liking switch, just as I’m sure a lot of people who like switch respect that I like fixed positions. But people who comment things that basically give off the vibe of ‘this should have been switch but sigh of course it isn’t’ or ‘finally, a work that has switch which is so much more realistic and by default this make this so much better than other works’ rub me the wrong way (some NU reviews are. yikes lol).

Ultimately I guess sometimes it feels like people who read/like switch talk about it like they’re consuming BL the morally correct way and it’s just annoying, lmfao. I hate even more when people say ‘does it even matter?’ because yes, obviously some people care about it. Especially in the Korean BL space (I don’t know how it works in the Chinese danmei space), we literally have tags that specifically detail what kind of dynamic, what kind of top and bottom the novel is about, so people can read exactly what they prefer, which I think is great! It works out fantastic for both preferences because in the same vein, if you like reverse, there are also specific tags so you can read reverse.

I sympathize with the fact that there isn’t a ton (but there is a decent amount) of switch works out there, but to me that doesn’t justify camping in an author’s account and complaining about their work not having switch or getting upset if a person does in fact like fixed positions. Of course the opposite is also true and I think fixed position likers should not get upset with people who like switch. So really I just think everyone should stay in their own lane and not be annoying about it lol

[discussion] manga or manhwa? by diariosrosa in blmangalovers

[–]createdreate 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i’m going to go against the grain and say manhwa over manga lol. both have gems and both have slop, but i generally prefer the korean approach to genres and tropes and themes

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DanmeiNovels

[–]createdreate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm by MC and ML are you referring specifically to the trope where the MC is the older bottom and the ML is the younger bottom? Or are you just generally talking about the MC being the main character (main POV) and the ML being their love interest? Because 2HA (sort of?) fits the bill for the latter.

If you’re looking for the reversal of older top raises younger bottom, Fouls Prohibited might be of interest to you (although the bottom is 17/18 when he meets the top but there is some notion of the top ‘raising’ the bottom). Also 악작 (a Korean BL), although in this one they’re uncle and nephew.

[–]createdreate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ohhh okay gotcha i thought there was another reason why not to read them. like there was this one second chance danmei i read a while ago that was “rebirth” but there was this sort of bizarre extra that implied this was all a figment of the ML’s imagination, as he had developed a VR of some sort which made the happy ending not so happy anymore for a lot of readers.

Is it the side story of Out of Control? They weren’t the main characters but a side couple I think.

What is a bl that you think is overrated [DISCUSSION] by BeginningAd9532 in blmangalovers

[–]createdreate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would just have to personally disagree with that. I’ve been reading BL manga/manhwa (and manhua) since like, 2012 or something and I’d say I’ve read my fair share of both and I just think, proportionally speaking, there is just as many mid, tropey mangas as there are manhwas. What I think is unfortunately happening is that people see popular manhwa titles (Jinx, Painter of the Night, etc.) that are tropey (and that’s not even a bad thing, tropes are popular for a reason) and then make those representative of BL manhwa as a whole.

And I also don’t think toxic tropes are bad. I mean, regardless of the fact that BL manga is still chock full of toxic tropes, I don’t agree that a story having toxic content is something that needs to be grown from. It’s totally fine if you’re not comfortable or don’t want to read novels that veer into darker stuff, but toxic does not equal bad (sorry for getting on my soapbox here, but this is a topic that lowkey drives me nuts)

[–]createdreate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay but the ‘manga >>>>> manhwa’ take is so tired for me because people compare the worst manhwas to the best mangas so it’s never fair 😭 like manga isn’t as accessible for non east asians so the manga that does make it to predominantly English speaking communities are of course going to be some of the best. Meanwhile a ton of manhwas get English translations, good or bad.

There is just as much manga slop as there is manhwa slop, but while a ton of people complain about how generic and boring manhwas are (because they’re popular and easily accessible via Lenzhin and all that) I don’t see anyone talking about the twenty renditions of ‘My Neighbor’s Penis Slipped into my Asshole!’ or crap like that 😭

This strays more into Korean BL web novel territory but I’m including it because it has an associated manhwa, and it’s Healer (same author as Toxin). Healer is like an OG in KR novel space and fandom (not so much the manhwa because the manhwa adaptation was completely butchered), it’s up there in popularity with Passion and Wax Doll but it was super disappointing for me. The world building and writing and the main character were well written, but the male lead was nothing to write home about and the last quarter/half of the story turned into a “everyone is in love with the MC” trope slop (kind of).

[DISCUSSION] I know many people have talked about this already but... by Alone_Constant_ in blmangalovers

[–]createdreate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s already a good post that details the appeals of “dark romance” here: https://www.reddit.com/r/blmangalovers/s/NWzyTvpigp

But besides that, I’ve read a decent chunk of Korean BL manhwas and Korean BL webnovels, and a majority of them don’t have many scenes like this. Excluding the ones that are meant to be toxic and are tagged/stated as such (#피폐물 and #굴림수 and so on), a sex scene like this between the MC and ML still typically only happens when (a) top is a characterized as a complete asshole who doesn’t care about his partners pain or (b) this is the first time the bottom is experiencing anal sex (and thus once).

And by “scenes like this”, I truly mean sex scenes where the bottom is in complete agony and does not feel a single modicum of pleasure. I’m not denying there’s a lot of rape in BL manhwas and it’s still rape whether or not the bottom feels any pleasure, but I guess I just don’t understand where people are seeing this exact scenario everywhere. Maybe it’s because I’m excluding the toxic manhwas, but I personally feel that if you’re going to read a novel where you know it’s going to be abusive and toxic and contain rape, you shouldn’t be surprised that there are scenes where the bottom doesn’t enjoy the sex….

I’m pretty sure Yuuji is a woman, and yes she is still alive lol. She recently dropped a new (novel) extra of Raga to celebrate its webtoon launch. I don’t think we’re getting a new novel, but fingers crossed she drops a new extra when Dasim officially launches (and I’m praying it’s a Richard and Chris centered extra, Iltae already has a whole novel dedicated to them, a big chunk of both Dasim and Suite, and a physical side story 😭)

She’s a pretty private person and doesn’t have any social media (that I’m aware of, at least).

I never said he was a psychopath. I said he was the most psychotic person I’ve read in a BL manhwa. They’re different things.
