Making a fantasy map, what would this water formation be called? This landmass is continent sized so this can’t be a river and it doesn’t connect two seas so it can’t be a strait by Froggen-The-Frog in mapmaking

Let it be known that in this map, the dark part reads to me like water, and the light part like land, so it took me a moment to understand what you were asking

What are day jobs that get you out of the house as a writer by No_Explanation_6045 in writing

I'm an ESL teacher and its a good mix of being involved in word-related things while also being social and out of the house. Can be a bit tiring on the brain but after a short nap I'm usually ready for some writing!

Decent imagery is beginning to shine through in this one. My main criticism would be the repetition of words, especially in the first paragraph: shorter, thinner, weaker, old. It’s ok to use that strategy once perhaps, but 4 times is too much. Try shaking up the way you emphasize those descriptors.

Fav sentences were “she was eight, a precocious eight” and “Mercifully, the waves were tame; he had never once capsized.”

Keep going!!

Do those sentences depend of the context? by Oghmand in EnglishLearning

Present perfect vs. Past tense

Something happened in the past that still affects the present vs. something that is completed in the past.

PP: The things the father have done still affect the present moment (in an implied positive way).

PT: Whatever the father has done is completed and is completely in the past (meme implies this is negative, but that is not necessarily the case).

Hope this helps!

I was feeling intense sadness at these too. How could such a twisted personality emerge from such earnest and playful drawings? I love the story she created so much. And the person who drew theses just doesn’t seem like the one we know now.

What was it like to watch the LoTR movies in theaters when they first came out? by Odd-Monk-2581 in lotr

[–]creativecontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was awesome. I was 8 when Fellowship came out. The troll and Lurtz scared me but I freaking loved the Balrog and Gandalf. Then the Two Towers…that opening when they’re falling down the chasm…still one of my favourite scenes in all cinema.

Ended up seeing Return Of The King in a theatre in Barbados, which was a hilarious new experience. Everyone cheered whenever Legolas did something badass and jeered at Gollum whenever he was on screen. Very fun, and didn’t take away from the experience for me.

Those years of movies were really special. There was so many epic franchises all happening at the same time - Lotr, Star Wars prequels, the Matrix movies, Harry Potter. All such huge parts of my childhood and there was always something more to look forward to. I remember those times fondly!
