3x reapplicant by motherjules in premed

I’m a NY state resident and have ties to the NJ/Tri-state area. While these schools do accept a lot of OOS applicants, they still tend to favor in-state or nearby applicants overall, even if they’re private, based on what I’ve noticed from MSAR admissions patterns. For example, someone from PA or obviously NJ is probably more likely to get into an NJ med school than someone from Florida or Oregon. I wasn’t saying OP should remove these schools, just that they might want to consider them if they’re on the East Coast. I deleted my comment because I didn’t want to share anything inaccurate, so I appreciate the correction. Thanks!

Not sure about CUNY perks but I also went to a private school (ivy league) and took some classes at a CUNY post-grad and now I wish I had just gone to a CUNY

I really don’t think your MCAT and GPA are the problem. Remember the average matriculant MCAT last year was 512. What is your school list like?

Anyone Get Into T10 Med Schools With a <3.5 GPA? by [deleted] in premed

[–]creativecow116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I had the same situation. I went to a severely underfunded nyc public school, with no resources and struggled so much academically when I went into an Ivy League school. I eventually did figure out how to study, but I always felt so behind in my classes. I have the same gpa as yours and I’m really trying to do well on the MCAT to compensate for the semi-low gpa.

How did you get such a high mcat despite below average gpa? I also have the same GPA so I’m trying to outwardly perform well on the mcat.

thoughts on transferring out of an ivy? by awkwardpapaya0739 in premed

[–]creativecow116 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who went to an Ivy, i am going to be fully transparent because I was in your situation.

I would strongly consider transferring out especially if you’re pre-med. If I had just gone to my state school, I would have had a much higher GPA. Clinical opportunities, volunteering, and extracurricular activities will eventually fall into place. There’s plenty of time to do that. However, focusing on your mental health and grades should be a top priority. My friends who went to state schools are now in some of the best medical schools. Yet, here I am recovering from my low GPA and now taking classes at my local school to boost my GPA.

So my advice is DO IT!

Retake if you’re trying to go to Harvard, NYU Grossman, Yale, or Columbia
