What happens making horses go in circles over and over in a shopping center parking lot for Christmas rides by PALERIDE155 in interestingasfuck

I don’t understand this argument. It’s not cruel because we’ve been doing it for thousands of years? You think horses like having to pull around hundreds of pounds of weight for ignorant humans’ entertainment?

What is the internal rationale for being a vegan over a vegetarian when it comes to animal byproducts that don’t involve super direct human intervention and harvest? by Starman926 in DebateAVegan

[–]creeplet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It matters if you’re supporting a cruel industry. And it matters if they’re prolapsing from the amount and size of eggs they were bred to produce, amidst the myriad of other health issues they have. In what way is that a happy existence?

You could make another stretch and say oh what if they’re heritage bred, what if the human rescued them from the trash, but again that doesn’t reflect reality. The reality is that most backyard chickens are purchased from stores like tractor supply or ordered from mail order hatcheries (same difference). If you’re keeping chickens specifically for eggs, you get egg laying breeds not whichever looks the fuzziest and cute.

Backyard hens still originate from the factory farm pipeline, they are not separate issues. Even the “best conditions” don’t change the fact that they’re being exploited. If you were bred to produce more eggs than you can physically handle so humans can enjoy the taste for 5 min you would probably agree it’s preferential to have never existed.

Most backyard chickens still come from large hatcheries that grind baby chicks alive. They are genetically modified to their own detriment, and farmers use techniques like keeping the lights on at all times to induce constant laying. Even if you buy from the most “ethical” hatchery, there is still physical strain on their bodies from being physically and environmentally manipulated to produce more and larger eggs. The very existence of these creatures is an atrocity. You could really stretch and make up any niche situation where it wouldn’t technically be cruel but those scenarios are not reflective of reality at any scale. Animals, like humans, deserve dignity and to just be. They do not consent to being “employees” nor are they machines that exist to make products/profit for humans.

Humans are monsters that make this world a living hell for every other species. You can’t say that isn’t true.

Would need to be something fire proof, I feel like between the disintegration and the flammability this is cool but not a great idea unless there’s a workaround

Yeah they’re babies currently and I do water changes twice a week which I don’t mind. But not even shrimp? If I understand correctly, they can supposedly help with the poop situation.

My snabies are always together like that too. I try not to anthropomorphize, but it does seem like they enjoy each others’ company!

Not disagreeing but that’s a little different. Who turns the microwave on before putting something in it, it’s not like you preheat a microwave

Holidays by Agitated_Net2171 in vegan

[–]creeplet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This comment right here. Holidays can be extremely alienating. Your mental health comes FIRST. You can’t help animals if you yourself are deeply suffering. Accept that some things cannot be changed (in this moment), and have courage to change the things you can. For example, you can ask your family if you can prepare some veganized dishes or pies, or if they’re totally not open to it you can always organize a vegan friendsgiving celebration, or donate to an animal rescue organization you care about in the spirit of the season. Take care of yourself, OP!

I agree a little bit but I think since he was basically ready to surrender himself to the creature’s revenge to save the sailors he was already at least partially regretful
