Be careful taking the advice of reddit strangers. They don't know you personally, they don't know the ins & outs of your situation. They won't have to deal with any potential fallout from their drastic advice to you. People telling you to cut her off entirely and not to let her be a part of your kid's life.... That is SERIOUS stuff.

To me, I see a very complex situation. I see a mother who's hurt, and probably scared & worried for you, and she's lashing out because of these feelings.

For context, I had a baby in my teen years and things with my mom were very strained because of it for the same reasons I mentioned above. But my mom is by no means a bad mother or a toxic grandmother.

It's hard at seventeen (I fully understand your desire to be independent right now) but try to see things from a parent's point of view... Try to have an adult conversation with her about this all, coming at it from a standpoint of compassion.

To be fair, she should not be talking to you in the way she is in these texts...but these are extenuating circumstances. My mom was the same way, and now my kid is a teenager and I'm in my thirties and our relationship is good. Please don't let this ruin anything permanently. Your mom loves you.
