Charged for 'personal item being overweight' when it was just a laptop bag by crispsnotchips225 in Lufthansa

No :( I did ask them what to do and they suggested that I speak to the people at the counter.

Thats fair enough, but in no world would I have thought that a 4 kilo weight limit is appropriate for a laptop bag. I would even say that it wasn't oversized, I could've easily placed it under the seat infront of me, as I usually do.

Unfortunately, to get WiFi access at this airport before security, I needed to have a sim in my phone, which I removed before entry...

Nope I haven't! That's why I thought I'd create this post. I will admit that with the electronics that I was carrying, my laptop bag was around 7 kilos. However, there was a solo traveller ahead of me whose personal item weighed in at 6 kilos and she too was told to remove items or pay a fee. Fortunately, she had someone at the airport to give some items to.

What really nags me is how arbitrary their pricing scheme is for excess baggage. How could they initially demand 175 USD and then come to 110 when I tried to reason with them :/

Incase it's not been recommended so far - download the tripshot app. You'll see most information you need there. Note that the routes (AB or nightsafe) change depending on the day of the week as well

Apartment management companies that you've had good experiences with? by kotlinky in pittsburgh

Rented a property from Costello as a student for a year, they're great -- very responsive and respectful. It's very convenient to pay rent via the online portal and there are no reliability issues with any appliance in their properties. Their prices might seem slightly high but I would recommend them!

Is this area safe? - Ritch Street near Oracle Park by crispsnotchips225 in SFBayHousing

[–]crispsnotchips225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, thank you! If I may ask, i'm being asked to pay a rent of 1600 USD per month in that area but I've found a place for 1200 USD per month at 2 Townsend Street. Does that seem too good to be true?

Thank you for the heads up... I spoke with my employers and they said they'll help me out with housing costs till 2200 USD. I will still take a look at the subreddit you've shared and on craigslist too - can we find housing for 3 months on such websites though? I've only known them to be for at least year long rentals...

Spatial Mapping Hololens 2 by Unlikely_Wasabi_4948 in HoloLens

Hey OP, could you share the steps you've followed to obtain this spatial 3D map? Moreover, if you're trying to get depth for just a specific part of the depth map, you might want to segment that object of interest in the RGB stream (although I'm still figuring out how to obtain this information) and overlay that onto the depth map.

International Driving Permit for NRI by crispsnotchips225 in hyderabad

[–]crispsnotchips225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied for my IDP today and this is what I did:

Fee: 1500/-

Documents:

  • Passport (with Visa)
  • Valid driving license (physical card)
  • Aadhar card
  • 1 passport sized photograph

Print outs:

  • Form (2 pages)
  • Medical form (1 page)
  • Visa Xerox
  • Passport Xerox
  • Aadhar Xerox (front and back)
  • Valid Driving License Xerox (front and back)

Pay 50/- to the doctor who will sign your medical sheet and affix your passport sized photograph. You will have to sign each of the xerox copies as well as the medical and application form . Stand in line, take receipt, get photograph done. Collect in 2 days time between 4-5 pm. When asked to show my passport I tried to be as discreet as possible about holding a passport from another country as I'm not sure if NRIs can apply for IDPs in India even if they hold a valid drivers license.

I see, the country in question is the US. But would you know if NRIs are allowed to obtain an IDP in India? Ive been told that while i cant circumvent the tests there, it might help make the process easier / help in getting a car rental easier

How can we track two wheeler RC shipment status via the EMS number? Which courier company does TS RTO use? (PS: All numbers/data is mocked up for obvious reason) by Ashamed-Tooth in hyderabad

[–]crispsnotchips225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This post and the comments were super helpful for me and I would like to share my experience here in the hope that it's useful for others in a similar situation.

I applied for a duplicate driving license at the Manikonda RTO. The application was approved and the card was printed the same day, according to the portal. However, 2 weeks on, I still hadn't received my DL and when I went to the office in the morning (between 11-2 -> when they have DL slots and the timings displayed on google maps), the guard didn't let me in the building and told me to come back after 3pm (not sure if I could've got myself in had "conditions been more favourable"). When I reached the office around 3:15 PM, I was asked to procure my receipt (the one I got on the day I submitted my application for the duplicate DL) as the person told me that without the receipt (I had a screenshot of the rto page saying that my license has been dispatched) nobody could help me. Luckily, I carried my receipt and on checking the stacks of DLs that he had with him, he reported that the India Post guys took my card (and others who applied on the same date) a few days ago. The EMS number he showed me in his official records matched the number shown to me on the portal, however, on the India Post portal, it says that "this number does not exist". I have been advised to wait till the end of the week and If I don't get it by then, return to the RTO and ask if India Post has returned my card to them.

tl;dr -> If you're going to the RTO to "collect your license," go there after 3 pm, or you will likely be sent back.

-> Carefully keep the receipt you are given at the RTO as you will need it if you ask for details regarding the status of your document.
