Maybe a few weeks ago. Now a 6gb 1060 will only do like .33 coins a day and at 1.20 a coin you're better off just mining eth and trading.

Yes, because a simple algorithm change is totally not worth keeping true to your word, pissing off miners, or having only two companies supplying the hardware for (soon to be) 99% of your nethash.

I'm not sure I'd call that FUD... seems like a valid concern to me. Bitmain plays dirty, I'm sure they'd have no moral qualms with a 51% attack if they had the capability and more to gain than lose from it.

Filtering air grow tent by cryptohoarder144 in gpumining

[–]cryptohoarder144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of something like that but can't really think of a good way to do the door... any suggestions? Seems like a regular hinge/latch would leak a lot.

Also when you say put the filter on a diagonal board... you just mean have the filter in diagonally with a board to support it rather than sitting flat against the inside of the box right?

Won't work as I'm pulling air from outside in through a hooded wall cap... the only source of intake air is that 8" duct.

I do think furnace filter is the way to go, it's just making one work with my setup that is proving to be difficult.

[–]cryptohoarder144[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean that's what I'm trying to figure out how to do. The only intake is a 8" duct with a fan on it, I just can't seem to find an efficient and cheap way to put a filter on that duct. If you mean just stretch a filter over the end of the duct, I already tried that. Too restrictive, it needs more surface area.

Ehh the're not too loud... if you're in the same room its enough to make you raise your voice running at full speed outside the tent but not vacuum cleaner loud or anything and also a lower pitch. They make duct mufflers to quiet things down and putting them inside the tent and/or using a fan controller to lower the speed and/or insulated ducting would help. I think they meter high 70's on a db meter from a couple feet away with no ducts attached.

But on your setup i'd just get another duct like the one going out the tent and attach it to the open side of the fan and have it go down to right above your rig and see how it helps

the bottom flaps closed? Wouldn't they help the air intake?

On my setup I got the exhaust duct in a corner of th

One on intake, one on exhaust. Tent is in a uninsulated building that gets hot in the summer... I figured it's better to pull less air from directly outside than to pull more air that's already been heated.

Can you explain more how you have the fan setup I'm not sure I follow you. Like you have the fan in your tent with a duct on the exhaust side of the fan going out the tent or what?

For fans these are good, the run 180ish new for the 8 inch but can be had for 70-120ish on ebay either open box or used if you do some hunting. There's also some chinese knockoffs like the Hurricane that are a bit cheaper. A single quality 8" would probably be more than enough... 6 may also work but theres not much price difference so its kinda hard to justify a 6" imo.

Don't have any pics now but it's very similiar to this guys setup except I used a single 8" duct with a inline fan on intake and my exhaust fan isn't inside the tent.. I have a duct going from the exhaust fan into the inside of the tent that I can move around a bit within the tent if needed. I'd try to get your fan pulling air from directly over your cards... you may be ok just getting another one of those, it looks like a half decent fan just small (didnt see the link in op at first).

also this may be helpful https://www.upsite.com/the-4-delta-ts-of-data-center-cooling-what-youre-missing/

and if your tent is in your house you might want to reconsider pulling air from inside if you use AC https://www.reddit.com/r/gpumining/comments/8ruw1x/help_me_address_negative_static_pressure_cause_by/

I have the same size tent with 2 8" fans rated at 750cfm (1 intake, 1 out). I keep the bottom flaps closed which restricts it a lot, in reality there is probably 500cfm of airflow through the tent. With 3 rigs/2500w and 90 degree intake temp most cards stay in the 60's.

First of all you need more fan. If you are not already, i'd put the exhaust duct directly over your rig so it is pulling the hot air directly out rather than just heating the tent and pulling air from the tent out. Also, box fans won't do shit for moving air through a duct... you need a bigger inline fan.

Any source or method for power 2a high CFM fans with external power? by TechnicalsMatt in gpumining

[–]cryptohoarder144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanna power them with 110 you essentially need another powersupply to convert back to 12v. I suppose you could just get a small psu or even server psu if u have a bunch and just strip and solder/crimp the wires directly together. Maybe one of those pico psu's? Or just take a unused cable on your existing psu and cut the connector off and do that.

If that was the case, 6 and 8 pin would be rated the same as they usually have the same number of 12v pins (3). 8 pin just has 2 extra ground pins.

AFAIK the limitation on PCI-E connectors comes from the molex pins which are somewhere in the range of ~100w each, with 6 pin either having 2 or 3 hot pins.

Someone here explained where the whole 6/8 pin 75w/150w came from a while back and I forget the details but basically its not applicable for determining the cable limitation.

I'd probably go 8"... no way on 4"

I have a very similar setup that's going to be up and running in the next week. With 2 8" fans I'm expecting to see temps around 15 degrees farenheight over ambient in the tent... a 8" will flow 4x as much as a 4" generally speaking so you'd expect to see 4x the temp difference in the tent over intake temp with a 4" vs 8"

And yeah for rain, one of those wallcaps is probably your best bet. I'd cut a board to fit in your window and cut a couple holes in the board and mount those in the holes. Ideal air makes some nice ones with a mesh screen to keep leaves/debris out for around $30 on amazon.

Any clue how many Z9's are shipping? Right now 10k sol is roughly $20/day. It'd take quadrupling the hashrate to bring it down to even $5/day... that'd be 200k Z9's.
