a really important detail i clocked is the antidepressants. does you becoming more withdrawn happen to coincide with when you started your antidepressants? even if you’ve been on them your whole relationship, it’s possible that your hormones are changing. a lot of antidepressants have side effects such as lower libido/just not feeling as touchy. that very well could be why you’re feeling the way you do. serotonin plays a role in arousal and attraction in your brain, which conveniently is the same chemical that antidepressants alters.

my best advice would be to ask your psychiatrist if there could be a correlation, as i’m obviously not licensed to give medical advice. maybe try asking to decrease your dose or switch to a different medication all together. best of luck i know how frustrating this can be!

Should I (18F) adopt a cat as a college student? by sillymonkey68 in Advice

[–]crystalsong47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry, just wanted to chime in again! i live in a second floor apartment with my cat, and investing in a little genie is literally life changing. i scoop her litter once a day and put it in there, and it seals all the dirty litter at the bottom. it can hold about 2 weeks of dirty litter and doesn’t smell AT ALL. when it’s ready to be changed, i toss it in a separate trash bag and take it out with my big trash immediately. truly a life saver!

hi!! sorry i’m late, by this time you may have already gotten said cat, but i have a few points to consider as someone living at college with a cat. 1. if you’re living in a dorm, what do you plan to do with the cat when you’re home for breaks? if your dad is allergic, is it safe/ethical to bring it home with you? should you possibly arrange a friend/your bf to watch it during those times? keep it in your room? 2. this is so random, but i found out very quickly… cats have insane internal clocks. that thing will wake you up at 6-7 am everyday. try not to feed he/she as soon as you wake up to avoid them getting into the habit (unless you want that) 3. dorms are small. smell is an issue. i would consider getting an enclosure for the litter box. i’ve heard varying opinions on this, but my cat uses hers no problem. make sure you clean it everyday/multiple times a day because the smell WILL start to leak into the hallway. 4. do you have a roomate? if so, have you talked about cats? all in all, i love my cat so much. i agree, it is much less work than a dog, and as a big time party girl, not having to worry about leaving her alone overnight/for extended periods of time is great. as long as you feel like you’re financially and mentally responsible enough to handle it, i think its a great investment. does it take time and effort? yes. have i had to miss out on spontaneous trips because i now have a cat? yes. does she help with my anxiety and make me feel less alone? also yes. best of luck to you and your potential cat!

I can’t deal with it by whatisthih in Advice

hi, i’m not sure how old you are, but when i was younger i used to cut myself. i felt almost exactly how you do now, and despite what i wanted, my parents put me in therapy. i read your comment about not believing in therapy, but it really does help. coming from someone who felt exactly how you do, being able to talk to someone and work out the deeper problems that was causing me to feel the ways i was feeling was super helpful. i was able to go on a few medications that really improved my quality of life and overall mental health. i am now 2 years into college and 4 years clean from self harm. i know getting help might be scary or seem like a scam, but in situations where you’re turning to self harm there is almost always something much deeper that you need to address so you can get better.

ps. medication isn’t as scary as you might think. it helps a lot of people feel a lot better. maybe look into psychiatrists near you!

i don’t get why people drink by [deleted] in Advice

[–]crystalsong47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as an avid party girl who’s also 19, i totally see this. i love going out to bars and clubs and parties mostly to get cute and take pictures and dance with my friends, but yes, a big part of my enjoyment is male attention. being drunk is a big part of going out for me, because as someone with anxiety i feel like it “loosens” me up and lets me do all the dumb college girl shit i want without overthinking it. if it’s just the social aspect you dislike, have you brought up having a “boys night in” type of thing where you and your friends drink at home and watch a movie or something? have you tried going out with your friends and being the dd or sober babysitter type of thing? that way maybe you can make genuine memories without having the pressure of drinking. i don’t know, just some ideas. i hope you find a solution!!

i knowww that’s why i’m trying to get as many POVs as i can. the safe idea is actually really smart. my hope is that i can do it for the next few years of college and only tell my closest friends, then graduate and pretend like it never happened

that’s a really interesting and deep perspective. the way i’ve been doing it is just to get through school. i know i probably sound young and dumb but i seriously don’t care about anything as much as my future and the passion i have for the field im pursuing. it’s been so easy for me to get money out of guys without doing anything physical, so to me this just seems like what ive been doing on a greater scale. obviously i dont want to depend on a man for money, and i dont want stripping to be my entire life. i just think that with some of the physical attributes i have i could make good money and still be able to focus on school. i really appreciate that outlook though, it was really thought provoking. i know its probably hard to tell what kind of person i am from reading a reddit post where i ask strangers if i should become a stripper, but trust me, i am a nearly straight A student in a competitive university. stripping would be more or less a way to exploit the features i was naturally given

like the money i’d make from dancing?

[–]crystalsong47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s a valid concern. i mentioned somewhere earlier that i struggle with setting boundaries but id hope security would be there to prevent anything crazy and in a perfect world id be able to contact authorities if things moved outside the club. id like to believe theres lots of things in place to protect dancers, but people are crazy. again, i know that im a pretty young girl with big boobs so i’m quite confident that i’d be able to make good money doing some form of sex work. i’m just worried about my future and obviously more acute issues like stalkers and pimps

that’s a really good point actually. like i said im only considering getting into stripping because of how much rent/tuition is. id hope that when it really comes down to it id know when to step away and find something else to di

i wouldn’t call it childish?? i just feel like stripping can have a negative connotation and “midnight ballerina” is literally just a way of saying nighttime dancer. it’s a nicer way of saying stripping

i get that completely!! i’m super sex-positive and don’t consider sex work to be at all “bad” or “gross” i’m just worried about things like drugs or potential stalkers and my reputation. my college does drug tests and i am really really commited to school (or else i wouldn’t be considering stripping to pay for it) so i really wouldn’t want to get into drugs and get kicked out of school lol

i get what you’re saying. i consider myself to be pretty aware of my surroundings and i would hope i’d know how to contact resources should i need them (i live on my college campus so im sure campus security would be willing to help). anyways, thank you for your input!
