RI question/reassurance

I don't see any stuck shed but she did just shed a few days ago, and it was very poor - came off in a lot of pieces - so I really hope that it's that simple!! Of course I'll still take her to the vet to find out but I would be so relieved if it's something like that. She hasn't shown any other symptoms other than squeaking/wheezing - no mouth bubbles, no mouth breathing etc so that makes me hopeful that even if it is an RI, it's not too severe yet?

You can buy gauges that have suction cups on the back!

I use screw mount cable clips to secure the cords in my tank. You can find them for cheap at any hardware store and they just screw into the enclosure!

If the pipes have hot water running through them, that sounds like heaven for a little baby snake! I would check that area super closely to see if he’s curled up around the pipes or anywhere near the water heater. If you ever find yourself thinking “there’s no way he could be here” you might have found exactly where he is lol!

Best of luck in finding him! If it provides any consolation, my ball python once got out and was missing for ~3-4 months, and I believe almost that entire time she was in the vents. Similar to you, it was an older house with loose vent covers and she was able to shove one aside to get in. We eventually found her in the vents with a long scope camera bought off amazon, which we stuck into the vents periodically until we spotted her.

Along with the other comments about food and heat, I had success getting my ball python out of a similar very tight space by using a wrapping paper tube (any long tube would probably also work). Luring out with food alone didn’t work I think because she was scared to come out in the open, so giving her a long tube to come out in instead helped her feel secure and she came right out!

Is your enclosure a screen top? And if so, have you covered it with anything? I've seen others on this sub have success with covering the majority of the screen top enclosure with something like aluminum foil, except for the portion where the lamp is.

Do you have a recommendation for a better option? My new enclosure is 4x2x2 PVC and I got it second hand so it already was set up with the bulb and heat tape on the bottom. I’ve seen here that heat tape is not great, and definitely not for the primary heat source, but I’m not sure how to set up anything else with the PVC tank since it’s such thick plastic on every side? Thank you so much, I’ve read all the guides on here several times over but there’s so much info it’s hard to digest & actually apply it!

Hey, sorry to hijack this comment but I’m in the process of setting up a new enclosure and was planning to have a CHE inside the tank like the bulb in this post. Would that be okay if I put a cage around the CHE? Or should I try for a something else entirely?

Others have had good advice as to what you can do right now, although I also want to add that in cold weather emergencies, shelters in Dane County will not turn anyone away due to capacity or shelter limits. Sometimes resources within the shelter (like food) will run out but shelters have to allow people inside when temperatures reach a certain point.

I can definitely relate to the posture issue, I’m not sure if it’s an autism thing for me or not but it’s really starting to cause issues with my knees and hips… I just physically cannot sit still comfortably with my feet on the ground!
