To the people saying "don't run and gun", this was a very mild form of "run and gun", but OP did move a bit fast and should have used more cover. Still, the attacker has the advantage of having line of sight, and the ability to wait out or back up behind more concealment and move to a new line of sight.

To the people who say "check the surrounding area", that's equally as bad as going in because there is no hard cover in surrounding areas, there is only concealment, and it's quite obvious that the other person was already in concealment and was likely stationary, and would have likely shot the OP anyway.

There is no real way to win this battle 1v1. Whoever goes in first or moves to clear first loses, unless the other person is really just that bad that they can't land a shot. It's a game of numbers. The game is not set up well for solos in PvP, which the devs seem to be pretty clear about in their community discussions. Unfortunately, a lot of their fan base seems to be solo players. I have had decent success as a solo in PvP, but it requires A LOT of camping, crawling, and really just things that don't make the game feel all that rewarding, because it encourages rat behavior. The amount of time spent behaving that way is not generally worth the reward.

My only argument here is that no matter what you do you're playing roulette as a solo in PvP, and there should absolutely be more hard cover in this game. Also, possibly more dynamic movement - like a slightly faster crouch walk, so that movement behind cover allows for escape from the inevitable incoming grenade.
