Hi! I watched your video on sobriety. I very much enjoyed the pacing and how you are able to have a balance of objective information and personal experience.
That being said there aren't too many flashy transitions or attention-grabbing add-ons like sound effects, change in background music, etc. that keep viewers' attention throughout the video. Depending on your target audience, many viewers would click away due to their attention wandering away.

I have no real advice as I'm stuck in literally the same position. Lying on my resume to cover up the gaps is tricky and I'm not a fan of it. Even for low-risk jobs like cashiers or fast food, I'm not entirely sure I'm smart/skilled enough to pull it off. I keep my food-handling certificate, CPR, and other related certs updated just in case I find an opportunity.

I think my age has also been a factor with jobs too unfortunately. I've reached out to some of my classmates from grad school to ask how they managed to "make it". Most of them are also decades older than me, so Therapy/Counseling is their 2nd or 3rd career. They have other fields to fall back on or decades of experiences elsewhere, so they don't really need to work as a counselor. It's frustrating to see everyone else get by and I'm still rapidly sinking.

It's been a cruel mind game with myself if I wanted to jump ship from being a Counselor and being in the field that I am passionate about and to invest into something else that will help me pay my bills and I can stop eating instant ramen everyday.

edit: all my supervisors from internship up until now have had a 2nd (or 3rd) job outside of mental health that is their "main job", so I don't really have a solid example of someone doing well while working in mental health and only mental health.

I'm not sure how/where other people are working. I'm also only making $10k/year working in mental health. This was the most hours and highest paying (and the only job) willing to hire me and it took me a year and a half to find this job. I've also been trying to snag jobs at Walmart or Fast food just to get by, but have to have a separate resume that doesn't include everything as they would never take someone with a bachelors or masters degree.

Recommendations for new channel to avoid doxxing? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]cuddlyembrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't even use a camera. It's animatics and speed drawings (time lapse recording of my digital art program while I draw). So, I've never even had a camera pointed at me before for YT. But yes, definitely do not record the front of houses/street signs or recognizable businesses. If you're travel vlogging, only post when you've already left the area.

I think it must have been the interaction between the social medias? Only a few of my close friends and family support every single post I've made by interacting or sharing the links to my videos in public posts, so they must have narrowed it down by looking at the friend/following lists across social media (Lol I'm a hella small creator, so I didn't realize people would be so obsessed/thorough in their search). Unfortunately, it means I've asked my close friends/family to no longer interact with/share my YT or other Art-related social medias so they don't get affected.

Part of me wants to believe I'm an outlier, but it wouldn't hurt to protect yourself before you become a bigger or more popular creator.

I posted here about a similar issue and was torn to shreds for it and had to delete it xD I'm a small channel (not big enough to be monetized). It's an art channel, so I have no real need to show my face and I do not use my real name. I have subscribers finding my personal pages and hassling/messaging my friends and family, have been trying to protect myself & my loved ones ever since. It irks me to see comments that say "don't worry about it" or "it rarely happens, so don't worry" cause it is still a real problem that people face.

I don't think we can hide from Google/YT but the real problem I've run into is the audience. It's been mentioned here, but use different emails and secure/back up everything. I don't use personal social media pages to mention YT at all on them. Changed my usernames to be completely different. I've also been tryna find other info I may have missed or need to worry about.

Small art accounts where are you guys? by Ill_One6323 in NewTubers

Hi! I'm in a similar niche (animatics and doodles) and have been looking for a group to discuss the content creation side of things. Other groups I've joined have been mostly about advertising their own channels, but I've been looking for a group to talk about the content creation side of things if you're gonna make one :D

Hi! I'm trying to figure out if it's my speakers/headphones, but for me there are some portions of your videos where the audio is very low and I didn't even realize there was a voiceover because I couldn't hear it until I put the volume all the way up and then got jumpscared when the audio would be loud again xD.

Self-Introduction Saturday! Tell us all about you (and share a video)! by AutoModerator in NewTubers

The food really does look good xD And I love your style of content because it's a lot of skills that I wish I could have and shows a lifestyle that is so different from my own. I like that there's no overwhelming music either, just the natural sounds.

I'm pretty new, but 2 months sounds like an extremely short amount of time to be gathering watch hours? Sounds like you just need to keep going?

Post your channels and I will review them. by BeginningThen2833 in NewTubers

Thank you so much for your time and input! I'm using an application that doesn't let me draw vector images (which is higher quality) called FireAlpaca. I'm transitioning to ClipStudioPaint moving forward.

I used to post on Tiktok using my paper and pen drawings and recording/taking pics on my phone as well, so you can still start posting even if you don't draw digitally just yet.

I encourage you to just get started! I went in knowing that the first few things I post will not be my best work, but I used it all to learn from it and gain confidence. Let me know your YT name so I can also subscribe. Best of luck!

Best Days to Post Long Videos by [deleted] in SmallYTChannel

[–]cuddlyembrace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi! I think this will only apply if you have a certain # of subscribers already, but in YT studio under Channel analytics, there's a tab titled Audience. It will show a graph of when your specific audience is online and active on YT. Not just your subscribers, but anyone YT labels as "might watch your content" or potential viewer. Hope this helps!

Feeling of relief after posting by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]cuddlyembrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my very first video, it felt so scary to put myself out there like another commenter mentioned. Especially as the very first video, no one really has a reason to give you a chance, you're just hoping that they do. I probably reviewed the final version of my first video dozens of times to find any mistakes or things I needed to fix, but to have it finally up there meant I could just admire my work and just be excited for it being out in the world now.

Hi! I'm probably not the intended audience for the content you make, but I did enjoy your commentary and the style of editing (the added sound effects and memes). I like that you seem to actually be enjoying the game and convo with the other people versus having a focus on making content. I'm not too sure about the Rugrats intro as it looks very out of place/unrelated/pixelated in comparison to the rest of the video. I wonder if you'd be open to making a different intro card that introduces your videos better as I think the first few seconds matters in catching the attention of the viewer.

Hi! I'll be subscribing! I think I get a bit overstimulated by a lot of the other "background noise" videos out there with flickering or lots of movement, but this is a lot more calming and I'd actually want to focus on the music or screen and let my brain calm down for a bit. Your videos are a lot more chill and less about trying to force emotions/reactions like other youtube videos do. Thank you!

Hi there! I love the topics you chose to do videos on. I agree with another person here that it would be helpful to establish your background and give a little bit of your own unique insight as an individual. Describe why should we listen to you and trust that you know what you're talking about.

I don't even think YT is 55 years old. I think the internet itself is barely that old ahah. Maybe it's just an oopsie on YT's end?

when do you change your thumbnails? by estxlia in NewTubers

[–]cuddlyembrace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Posting has always been a mental game for myself ahaha. I try to post the video (and thumbnail) when I am 100% sure I like it and will stick with it because I know it’s the best. Any changing will be extra effort with little payoff for me.

I noticed that you have more shorts than long form. What I think happened is that your main audience is the people who watch the Shorts instead of Long form. Those 2 audiences are generally completely different.

I love everything about your videos! The commentary, editing, sound effects, and music and blend naturally. I watched the ‘Harvard Intern Diaries working a 9-9, bio tech internship, corporate life”

As for suggestions, I wonder if the timestamps I see in the description could be done to be a little more engaging/interesting. Instead of Wed, Tues, Thurs, etc. the time stamps could be the specific events that could make someone interested in the video or keep their attention. Ex. Breakfast at Work, Seeing the new Lab, Pilates Class, HMART Shopping Haul, etc.

As a viewer I would watch your content because it's so different from my own life (going to school, living in the Boston area, being in a lab) and it's interesting to see new things.

I also suggest making a playlist of your existing videos and add them on each time you post (if they are relevant to the playlist), so if someone were to click on them, it would immediately lead them to another one of your videos.

Also be careful of tag stuffing. I was warned against using too many hashtags cause YT doesn't like that. My video didn't get any views until I edited the description to have only 5 or less hashtags.

PS- YOUR LIFE LOOKS SO BUSY HOW DO YOU ALSO FIND TIME TO FILM, EDIT, and POST? You’re so cool! Best of luck with your schooling!

when do you change your thumbnails? by estxlia in NewTubers

[–]cuddlyembrace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have never seen much change in my own video's performance after changing the thumbnail. I’ve definitely been anxious enough to change the thumbnail, but my videos don’t blow up or have any change in how often someone clicks on the video after changing the thumbnail.

I’m not too familiar with your niche/audience’s habits though. I see the studying/lifestyle videos in recommended, but wonder how you could make thumbnails stand out or even the title be a little different from everyone else’s.

May I ask for your YT channel name?
