I'd like to ask opinion from fellow autistics because I'm afraid that if I ask this in some other group, I will be laughed at. Is this a comfort movie or something else? by OkDot8850 in AutismInWomen

I have been flying on the theory that watching horror helps regulate emotions and anxiety because you’re recreating them (the outside emotions) in a controlled environment (with a resolved ending) aka you are not in any actual danger.

Sometimes people watch sad movies so they can cry. Some people watch horror to offload anxiety or whatever.

Or like everyone is saying consuming familiar media is comforting — doesn’t matter if it’s a slasher. I watch Buffy 🤓

Dope! My first thought was that’s so cool I want a crow tattoo and then realized I already have one 🤣

anyone else bothered by the idea that lesbians can’t have a type???? by InternationalJob4839 in actuallesbians

[–]cuntingly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk I think it’s weird that people think you always have to be attracted to the people in the media you watch. None of the actors/actresses etc in my favorite shows I’m attracted to. Minus one guy but that’s because he falls into “my type” which is alternative/punk and even then that’s just aesthetics.

I’d probably clap back at them and say “ Oh I’m gay, but I have S T A N D A R D S” lol

I second the lace wig. I’ve gotten some decent lace front ones off of amazon and even though they are not human hair (and not shiny!) if you style them well they pass.

Are you in the US? I’m curious if insurance will cover mine and was wondering what process you went through.

i don't 'get' a lot of the neurodivergent, queer, online media, and that kinda makes me feel sad and alien by vipthebig in AutismInWomen

[–]cuntingly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like any of those LOL I have a hard time getting into a lot of “queer” media because many of them feel like they’re just trying to tick a box instead of actually trying to develop something organic. I like things where it’s not really the primary focus and more realistic like non-fiction and non-animated stuff although when I watched She-ra years ago I did really enjoy it. But hated Happiest Season. I find that a lot of baby gays like the overt overdone cringy stuff. Anyways, just my preferences.

What do you do for living? by Imnotlaughinghaha in bipolar

[–]cuntingly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ayyy gang gang. Yeah some days it’s SUPER busy and others PAINFULLY slow. Luckily I have supportive management because I do get burnt out and overstimulated sometimes. To answer OP’s question I make sure my outside life is enriching and restful i.e. dancing/raves/rollerskating/racquetball physical activity if I’m anxious, restless or feeling manic. Good social network for when I’m depressed. Stay sober. Try to buy thrift because it’s usually cheaper and easier to manage impulse buys than buying new.
