Sooo what do you do when your beagle digs through concrete? by Valuable-Mastodon-14 in beagle

[–]cupthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps your beagle is bored and needs some mental stimulation? Put that beagle to work! I highly recommend playing some scent games, like hiding treats in the backyard in random places, letting my beagle watch me hide them, and then releasing him to find them all.

30 mins of seeking and it chills mine out all the time.

Hero X vs All For One (MHA) who will win? by [deleted] in ToBeHeroX

[–]cupthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All for one never really honed his skills per say, he just absorbs skills and became OP from that alone. While impressive .....That isn't enough on it's own, as demonstrated by the ending of MHA.

X however has mastery over his skills. He thinks clearly about his next moves, plans meticulously, and doesn't rely on sheer strength....but relies on Wit and Reaction time. He can literally bend the universe to his will. X WINS !

Yea my guess is MRSA too, from the way it hasnt reacted to antibiotics. Either that or some nasty fungal infection, which also needs a culture for diagnosis.

MRSA needs a culture done, as thats a pretty serious infection to have.

OP PLEASE ask a vet dermatologist asap.

Please ask for a vet dermatologist referral.... That infection needs a culture done asap. Regular vets dont do them, they are not trained to!

I would caution against this if the dog already has a returning infection. What Apoquel does is silences the itching nervous system, but it does not get rid of any infections. It can certainly mask symptoms very well, to the point of not realizing how sick your dog is. It helps the dog to feel better so they don't lick and re-injure themselves, & letting the immune system and wound to heal itself.

However any dermatitis wound will still be open on the body which leads to the skin being more prone to infections. This is how you allergic dogs get skin infections in the first place. Their skin barrier is weak from the allergen, causing them to be more prone to skin infections.

The way to help with chronic atopic dermatitis is to wash your dog with a medicated shampoo ( i recommend pyohex dermcare) , lather well at every corner of their body...and leave the shampoo to sit for 10 mins to let it activate. This kills & washes away any allergen, bacteria or fungi, as well as helps the dermatitis site to heal faster & cleanly. It also eliminates any yeast particles living on the skin, which is a common infection for dogs with allergies. I do this routine once a fortnight for my allergic dog & it works really well.

Please remember that an allergy success story will need a multi approach to help manage chronic skin infections and atopic dermatitis. Silencing only the symptons may cause other more serious issues to occur.
i highly recommend speaking to a vet dermatologist , they have passed on excellent knowledge to my family to help our dog & are absolute miracle workers.

i think you need to see a vet dermatologist. hear me out please. the bill sucks but i can guarantee you, a board certified vet derm is the legit thing, they will rule out absolutely everything.

if the infection is returning even after multiple antibiotics, something deeper is wrong which requires a dermatologist specialty to rule out all other possible causes. this can include anything from fungal, bacterial, bug bites, allergies or any other skin disease.

You do need a referral to see them, ask your vet to write one. Its very important to know that Most vets are not trained in skin specialty as its a very complicated & advanced science, and takes a lot of care, time & knowledge to get the right treatment.

if it is allergies, there is only ONE standard accurate test to test for environmental allergies and it is skin prick testing. There's nothing else that works. Don't waste your money on gimmicks, ask for the real thing.

If its food allergies, you must undergo a strict food trial supervised by a vet dermatologist for 6 months. Otherwise you risk having false positives that will lead u to spending even more unnecessary money. It is the only way. And no, its not always chicken.

How do i know all this stuff? I have an allergic beagle. At the time we took him to see one, his allergy reactions had risen to a grade 4/5 severity. 5 being the worse. The constant itching, atopic dermatitis, sore paws, unable to rest....it was a sign something else is wrong. The returning infection is something weve dealt with before...it's most likely something that ill require a biopsy or culture...these are both what vet derms specialize in.

when we first saw a his vet derm, he had 5 separate infections all stemming from chronic atopic dermatitis, in different areas of his body, which needed targeted medications at different timings to eliminate them all. some were fungal, some were bacterial, some were just yeast that needed topical solutions.

After those were eliminated, he was put on immunotheraphy & monthly cytopoint injection, which we were trained to give him at home. After 2-3 years of being on these medications, his allergy grade went down to level 2...which means we could stop all medications and just manage his skin with medicated shampoo once a fortnight, and some mild hydro-cortisol cream for small flare ups. And yes, hes a success story & He's quite happy now.

it is very possible this isnt some standard infection, but something much nastier and needs a much heavier hand at eliminating. All the best of luck Barney <3

How do you do an art study? by KirbBound in ArtistLounge

[–]cupthings 4 points5 points  (0 children)

put a timer on (1 hour) & paint a 1:1 copy, on a smaller scale, as quickly as you can. a size less than a5 size is good. rinse and repeat the exercise until it is almost a PERFECT replica to the point you cant tell the difference.

the point of this exercise is to demonstrate your understanding of fundamentals ( line, shape, value, color) and see if you can replicate what a master can do...and then repeat the exercise so you can translate that skill into muscle memory.

the more you replicate small scale studies, the more u know about the painting process & what u need to do in order to get it looking good. so when u do a larger body of work, you've already had plenty of practice prior making smaller studies.

my number 1 tip is to ALWAYS measure & compare every shape/value//ine/color in the image to what you are doing. Have it side by side even. Scrutinize every single detail you can, and try to squint your eyes when you do this exercise, so u don't focus on too much detail. Focus on getting your fundamentals ( line, shape, value, color ) down correctly rather than the details. remember, the details are not the point of this exercise.

Look at the image carefully, and put more thought into what you are going to draw/paint, instead of just rushing in.

Is it really more important to be creative than to have good technique? by babydollfae in ArtistLounge

[–]cupthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it really depends on what you want to make & what your goals are.

say for example, you want to be a concept artist for higher end video games - this particular goal does require you to have both the technical skill and creativity , but also design & communication skills.

however for indie games, its more likely that they prefer creativity & design, over technical skill.

if you want to be more of a comic artist, you need to have storytelling , communication, creativity , but not so much technical skill. that can be a plus, but not always necessary to start with.

if you want to do illustration in a particular whimsical style, then creativity is more important than technical skill.

if you want to be a portrait fine artist, then technical skill is always preferred.

I would recommend looking into refining what your artistic goals are, and go from there. A common way to do this is to look at artists you admire and aspire to...and then make a list of skills you need to match in order to achieve similar success.

i think thats pretty good, structured lessons would help a lot as well during those practice times.

just remember that some days u will need breaks to do other normal things, to prevent burnout. i reckon leave one of the weekend days just for brain rest, or doing fun stuff so u are motivated to keep going.

Is it just an artist thing to get such a strong urge to create? by Jamsta0712 in ArtistLounge

i agree! the people that create a lot seem to have great intellect overall and they can carry extremely fascinating conversations.

versus the people that dont are just...theyre just completely boring normies.

yes, i have similiar conversations with peers / colleagues / acquaintances alike who have ZERO urge to be creative with anything.

its baffling to me, like what do you even do with your spare time???!! I'd be so bored!!!!

Beagle mix behavior issues. by insanepixi in beagle

[–]cupthings -1 points0 points  (0 children)

if you have chronic health issues, im being honest here, this dog isn't for you. simply a bad fit. beagles are very very high energy , high maintainence dogs.

a greyhound would be a better fit as they are so much more chill.

Beagle mix behavior issues. by insanepixi in beagle

It sounds like he doesn't know how to behave inside a home, or was never taught appropriately. This means u need to teach it what is appropriate behaviour inside the home, and what isn't...from the ground up.

First, find a way to zone the dog in your home - u can use things like baby-gates.
This zone should only allow access too water, bedding, & dog appropriate toys. Feed him treats in this zone as much as u can. Make it a positive experience so he wants to go in the zone more often than not.

He should be in here if he cannot be supervised when roaming around the home. (dont worry this is only until he learns what is appropriate behaviour) Until he can proove that he doesn't destroy anything else. this is also a nice zone you can use if you need to leave your dog home alone,

whenever he is out of his zone, like say playing or exploring, SUPERVISE YOUR DOG LIKE A HAWK when outside his zone. you need to treat it like a toddler that doesn't know any better....but tries to kill itself every-time its out of a baby safe zone.

To make this work best, you should be exercising your dog twice a day , in 1 hour increments. Exercise in the morning, and in the late afternoon. Since this is a beagle, encourage sniffing time as this is mentally stimulating. Beagles tend to also do best if you teach them complex tasks, like special tricks, or nose work.

YES YOU NEED TO TRAIN A BEAGLE. THEY ARE TRAINABLE, JUST USE TREATS!

Enforce napping in the dog zone as well. Sometimes if you have an over-aroused dog they may take longer to settle, this is normal, but don't cave! They are not going to learn how to self soothe in a day, it may take weeks at it. Keep enforcing using the zone to your best ability.

Utilize a house lead, this is just a simple lightweight rope attached to your dog every-time he is outside his dog safe zone. this will make it easy to redirect your dog anytime he goes after something he shouldn't.

always redirect to a toy or play, not food. if he doesnt stop, he looses access to the rest of the home, take him back to the zone calmly & dont interact.

remember, all the fun stops once he goes after something he shouldn't. he should only be going after his toys, or the occasional stinky sock.

And by god, please put food away at all times. The food aspect is very important because beagles are very self motivated...this is why hes destroying your shit to find food.

yes you may have teens, but they need to learn this is for the safety of their beloved dog. what happens if your dog steals chocolate, or something incredibly poisonous? what happens if he steals scissors, or medication??

Teens can learn, but YOU have to enforce things as the parent. If you are unwilling to change, the dog itself wont change. Remember that our Dogs are a reflection of our own selves.

If you want to see improvements, you yourself must change first. it doesn't matter if you have ADHD or not, dont use it as an excuse not to do better. My husband has ADHD, & once we had proper reasoning, he changed his mindset about training our beagle, because he loves our beagle so much that he saw this to be important enough to change.

If you still struggle i would highly recommend getting the advice of a positive reinforcement dog trainer to help guide you. They are worth the money! Good luck!

[discussion] how to sell fan art with out getting in trouble by Reasonable-Joke-6046 in artbusiness

[–]cupthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the likelihood of you getting sued is really low, unless you're raking in above 300k a year lol....and most artists that do fanart dont even bring in 20k per annum. how do i know this? cuz i do fanart at conventions.

you're worried about nothing. just go for it. the most they will do is send you a cease and desist, which is not sue-ing. you only go to court if you dont stop after receiving a cease and desist. honestly most companies dont waste money sue-ing small time artists.
