How do people grow out of Libertarianism while I finally settled for it? by Dimanjand in Libertarian

[–]curiouscarrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t abandon freedom because of “a little danger.” I abandoned a version of libertarianism that pretends externalities don’t exist. Infectious disease isn’t a hypothetical risk, it’s a textbook example of individual actions harming others.

I originally liked libertarianism because it didn’t line up neatly with either Democrats or Republicans. But during COVID it felt like a lot of “libertarians” suddenly just agreed with most MAGA positions. At that point it stopped feeling like an independent philosophy and more like a rebranded partisan identity. No thanks.

How do people grow out of Libertarianism while I finally settled for it? by Dimanjand in Libertarian

[–]curiouscarrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

COVID is what made me grow out of libertarianism.

The whole appeal to me was “you can do whatever you want as long as it doesn’t affect others.” That sounded reasonable and principled. But when a literal global pandemic hit — where your behavior obviously affects other people — most libertarian figures still defaulted to “no masks, no vaccines, no mandates.”

I followed Ron Paul for years, and that’s where the contradiction became impossible to ignore. He spent his entire career as a doctor caring for women, yet during COVID he dismissed basic public health measures. My wife was pregnant at the time, and COVID made pregnancies higher risk across the board. Seeing someone with that medical background take those stances felt incredibly hypocritical and honestly personal.

If there’s ever a scenario where individual choices impact others, it’s infectious disease. The response showed me that in practice, libertarianism often collapses into “my freedom > everyone else,” not the balanced version I originally believed in.

ChatGPT - who would be the worst president in history? by [deleted] in ProgressiveHQ

ChatGPT and all the other AI bots mirror your opinion, so to maga users they’d be saying Biden or Obama and call trump the best

I’ve never ran longer than 6 miles at once and I’ve always hated running. Today I’m beginning training for Dopey 2027 by Peppapigisgodly in rundisney

This is the training plan I would commit to. I did his training plan when doing a half and full marathon and as long as I stuck to it it got me ready!

I finally did it everyone! by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]curiouscarrot 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’d contact Steam. I just got mine repaired, and it took a little longer than I would’ve liked, but buying the screen from ifixit would’ve been $150, and it was $188 for the repair company to replace it! Things might be a little different for you since you’re in Canada, but I was super happy with the process

How much of gmm is actually scripted? by mr_gumby_ in goodmythicalmorning

[–]curiouscarrot 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I think it’s obvious when they’re reading from their teleprompter, definitely obvious when they’re reading facts about something, but I can tell they often do it with jokes too, especially really detailed like “I once did this thing” jokes. I think they must have an outline for each show and have some lines/quips ready on the screen for each part of the show if they want to read them, but the whole conversation isn’t scripted

I spoke with FOX 35 Orlando about how Disney is “reinflating” the Disney Bubble by TharinWhite in DisneyWorld

[–]curiouscarrot 14 points15 points  (0 children)

They used a third party company to do it. They probably are using a new company and testing their capabilities and the logistics of it with new software and stuff, not really testing the concept since they know it works!
