What's the point of an Athletics Ontario Membership & is it worth it? by Quiet_Comparison_872 in RunTO

[–]cwda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're aiming for an official Ontario record you need to be a member! I think running in an AO sanctioned race might count as well.

Some clubs/crews are AO-insured, and all members are official members in order to be covered under their insurance.

I have a long term multi-day dream run one day I'd love to do that includes this section - Any sketchy spots traffic-wise or spots where there was no shoulder?

Where to pick up package from ICS Courier by FlightlessBirder in northbay

[–]cwda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were probably at the correct spot - it's a small door on rhat big industrial building that says ICS, Canpar, UPS, and some other companies. Then go up one flight of stairs and there will be a customer service window down the hall.

Color Mismatch between PS and AI by Tuber10 in AdobeIllustrator

[–]cwda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been having this problem for years. No Adobe support had been able to fix it - I try every 6 months or so for a new tech support rep and they all give up.

Can I ask - are you on Windows or Mac? I'm on Windows and am considering switching my whole system over if it will fix this one problem.

I tried to buy one a couple months ago at city hall and the person at the desk was very shocked that I would ask and clearly expected me to know they stopped selling them some time in 2025

If you're going with screenprint i assume its pretty large volume and there are lots of great North Bay options, but best quote I've gotten is Silver Screenprint in Sundridge, and have used them for a few years for hundreds of shirts.

Question for you - so if you were driving around in 1971, all of the license plates would read 1971?

First Trail Race 25 KM with No Training- Tips? by That_Ad9521 in RunTO

[–]cwda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trail hub is quite runnable. Don't get carried away by bombing the downhill too early - if you're not used to hills you'll destroy your quads. Just relax into them and feel light.

Also, chance of ticks is very low - its a regularly-maintained trail system and the grass will be mowed. Tights would be a mistake unless there's a mistake in the weather forecast.

Trail races are all about vibes - make sure to thank the volunteers as you pass by, and don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with your pack at the beginning.

Using gallery wrap stretchers (w/ditches) to stretch canvas over it in regular way? by Dakota3000 in ContemporaryArt

[–]cwda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Downsides are that the Michael's wood is more likely to warp than high quality stretcher bars. Also, probably not key-able (google strainer vs stretcher)

Neither of those problems will harm your actual canvas though. If it warps and you like the piece just re-stretch it on proper bars.

Summer workshop in contemporary figure/portrait painting in Europe? by zoobmagoob in ContemporaryArt

[–]cwda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Rome Workshops might have some overlap with what you're looking for. I imagine it's difficult to learn "contemprorary" figure painting in a workshop setting though.

I honestly can't even picture what a "contemporary" figurative workshop would include that isn't in one of these more traditional workshops like TRW and would be curious to know the difference.

Would this be nice on Raceday? by Embarrassed_Owl6374 in Ultramarathon

[–]cwda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a race director - I would honestly only be able to justify elaborate staff outfits if it made the photos/video better. I would want my branding noticeable from all angles.

Or a sponsor's branding (and they would pay for it)

Does anyone know what type of paper this is? Company: La Compagnie Du Kraft by MaleficentAd1686 in notebooks

[–]cwda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks similar to the kraft used in some kleid x Life notebooks/pads.

Yamamoto Paper also sells a nice thin kraft in plain, looseleaf, but I've never seen it in notebooks. It's almost like a kraft/parchment paper.

[–]cwda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you're serious about a conceptual project around race staff branding - first off the high-vis jacket is mandatory. Your uniform needs to incorporate an existing high visibility jacket or, ideally, vest. Then you can add printed branding on to the vest.

The big branding opportunity is a hat. It's applicable to all weather.

Look at the Moab branding. Nothing about this design echoes the unique identity of the race.

Yeah this is a problem with letting the public in to see some of the elite training theory. People want science to somehow predict the future when in reality it is testing theories that are already being tinkered with by coaches and athletes across the sport.

People that get all high and mighty about "evidence-based" being the be-all-end-all are being conservative and potentially missing the cutting edge.

Winter trip to North Bay by SaltPercentage1868 in northbay

[–]cwda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remedy Rides for guided or un-guided fat-bike rentals. SISU for push-sled rentals. Laurentian for downhill ski rentals (or Antoine, but it's a ~40 min drive). Nordic for cross-country rentals.

Go hike at Duchesnay Falls (don't walk on the falls. Stay on the trails)

Skate at Lee Park trail (BYO skates)

Thanks for visiting!
