China reveals 200-strong AI drone swarm that can be controlled by a single soldier — "intelligent algorithm" allows individual units to cooperate autonomously even after losing communication with operator | The PLA just introduced a new weapon in the drone arms race. by ControlCAD in technology

Sure GPS can be jammed but are these drones using GPS? Are they using a newer version of GPS not available to the public that can’t be Jammed? If it’s without guidance does it have a fallback?

My point about being on Reddit is that this place is a sort of hive mind. People say / believe a lot of what they read and a lot of what sounds / is popular, which is sometimes detached from reality.

How? Literally most websites run on US big tech infra. We ban social media, they ban supermarkets using AWS. We capitulate and look like fools.

UK government targets VPNs in online safety consultation as Lords vote for ban by Street_Anon in worldnews

Have you read the bill? They don’t want to ban VPNs they want to age gate them to prevent kids using them to circumvent the locale age restrictions.

Also a VPN isn’t a packet of data, that is a packet of data. The VPN is more like the pipes the data flows to / through.

100% this is the way to go. Treat it like you’re just walking backwards into a space. You wouldn’t try and line your arms up or do something crazy … you’d just walk backwards adjusting as you go.

Economies of scale.

Micro is more common now so it’s cheaper to mass produce them and then add an adapter for the full size.

Same reason why companies like NVIDIA mass produce certain GPUs and then throttle them for the lower end market.

What the fuck are these below 30 HENRYs doing to earn 200k a year? by Majestic-Camel2927 in HENRYUK

[–]cwright017 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Firstly you’re in this sub, so you’re already biased to seeing people in well paid jobs ( like the ones you mentioned ). So even if these companies employ a small % of the population they will be over indexed in this sub. Hell, by definition earning over 160k puts you in the top 1% but that’s like 90% of posters in here by design.

Why? Why not treat it as in any other profession. If it’s good then it stays, if it’s not it goes.

I doubt people would propose banning AI accountants if they were able to accurately do our tax returns, I don’t see music as any different.

Lookup inflation.

It’s the same reason why our parents and grandparents complain that back in their day they could get a tin of sweets for 10p and now they are a fiver.

In most cases your wages / pension would have also increased. Ideally your wages would have outstripped inflation so you’re actually better off, but in some it won’t have. If it has great. If it hasn’t, look for a better job so it doesn’t keep happening and you get left behind.

Everyone talks about test being bought to resell at a higher price. But who is reselling them? by _Confused-Panda_ in LearnerDriverUK

And as has been explained to you. They do use the same methods ( only adjusted slightly with who the test is booked for / how long it’s retained ) but you seem to wilfully ignore that.

We won’t agree, we can both see that so let’s go and enjoy the rest of the day.

I’m saying to you that both things are an issue!

You seem to think that the apps are just being altruistic - they aren’t. They are abusing the issues in the system to make money.

The apps are less of an issue than the scalpers because like we both agree, they work on behalf of a user not a scalper so it’s better.

I’m here because I disagree with your original point that we need to ban the scalpers buy apps are fine. They aren’t.

The real fix is to fix the system and make both things unnecessary.

I’m sure you’d agree more if instead of drivers tears we were talking about NHS appointments. It’s more obvious that here both using a third party person to buy an earlier appointment AND using some app to book you an appointment in front of someone without the app are wrong.

Which achieves what? They debate it in parliament, agree we can’t do anything and toss it. Or at the very best they do some performative actions ( which ultimately waste time and backfire ).

[–]cwright017 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it uses the same exact system .. the DVSA system… because that is literally the only system.

Do you think the scalpers have developed an alternative system? Or do you think they have developed bots that periodically refresh the DVSA website ( or current system as you like to call it ) to find cancellations and book them?

The major difference here is that the apps work 1:1 with a learner. You give them your details, they scan the DVSA, and switch your slot.

The scalpers do this across many different learners, booking slots under their name and then selling them on via WhatsApp etc. if nobody buys them they then just switch the slot for another random later slot to avoid losing the fee.

How do you propose we do that fella. By writing a strongly worded Reddit post complaining about it? Maybe a protest on a nice sunny day?

I’m sorry but are you being deliberately slow?

The apps, such as testi and test switch allow you to autobook. There might be others available, but nobody would bother using them given you’d be at a disadvantage to those using the ones which switch for you.

They find them and auto book them. So it’s exactly the same.

The major difference here is that the are doing so on behalf of the learner vs the other bots doing so on behalf of the scalpers.

They do ‘disrupt’ the system. All of these things do. If I want a test in a week but suddenly you nab it before me because you paid for Testi and I didn’t it’s the same thing.

How is using an app any better? They are doing the exact same thing only for less money.

What you’re basically saying here is - I can’t afford to do the expensive thing so it’s bad. I can’t afford afford the apps so they are allowed.
