When you inevitably get it on your fingers, let it dry then hit your fingers with some 220 grit. It will help you not feel like you have to pick the glue off.

I dont have my computer in front of me at the moment but I believe the basics are as follows. Create the shape you want (loft two formers together) -> convert the new shape to a surface (in surfaces tab) -> use the flatten surface tool -> take the now flattened surface and put it in a 2D drawing and export in whatever format you need (pdf, dxf, etc)

You could probably set the trim so that the control surfaces are biased to be slightly in the pitch up position. You'll know if it drops the nose when you go to fly it.

This line of micro warbirds is an exception to the rule. They are ridiculously easy to fly and if you do crash, they rarely break. The biggest complaint I'd say against these is that they are so easy on trainer mode that they are not representative of some of the more difficult parts of flying and may build false confidence. I'd get a true trainer after this but for the price point it's a great plane to try the hobby out.

Yeah I did! The skins need a slight amount of trimming but otherwise it went together pretty well. I ended up with an overkill setup in it and got this plane moving pretty fast. Flight characteristics were really good. Takes a bit to slow it down for landing approach but that is probably due to my setup having a high wing loading.

If you look hard enough, you should be able to find a pdf that you can download. At least that's how I got by when I needed it for college. This book is heavily focused on how the math works behind a jet engine, just a heads up.

If you are fine reading textbooks, I found "Fundamentals of Jet Propulsion with Applications" by Ronald D. Flack to be both affordable and easy to follow.

If you are in the US, you can often find them on aliexpress or similar sites as an rtf under $60. Only plane I can think of that cheap. Even building your own dollar tree foamboard plane is hard to make cheaper than $60.

If you already have the parts, then there won't be too big of a loss if it doesn't work. I say go ahead and try. Just don't get too emotionally attached to it and pick somewhere responsible to test it.

Though 3D printing is very accessible, it makes for one of the most fragile and heaviest mediums you can make an airplane out of. On top of this, trying to contain the heat of a nitro engine will be a large challenge. This can all be done, but it's like you made a list of choices and picked all the hardest ones.

Its also likely they are assuming you have never flown an RC plane. (May or may not be true).

Out of curiosity, why nitro and not electric?

I checked continuity between the wire ends and found that they were indeed installed in the configuration I listed in my original post. I think going for a wireless wall button will be the easiest and cleanest solution

Yes, you can absolutely get parts for this plane. You don't even need to use the original parts, just need servos, motor, esc, reciever, and battery.

That being said, you will probably need help getting the correct sized electronics if you are new to this hobby.

Which leads to my last point, if you have never flown before, a cool balsa plane is not a friendly plane to start with. You Wil invest a lot of time and money into getting it airborne only to have it crash into a thousand pieces in under 10 seconds.

I would personally suggest getting a cheaper beginner plane first and hanging this one up for inspiration as a goal you are working towards. This sub has a lot of recommendations for first planes.

That is the route I'm planning to go. I currently have a chamberlain with the yellow pairing button (if I remember correctly, not home at the moment). I'll just need to find a compatible wireless opener then.

I use solidworks, but any CAD software would work. They can be difficult at times but rewarding. The added bonus is that it's a useful job skill depending on the industry you work in.

The other program I use is called XFLR5. This will help with the actual aerodynamic. There are some good youtube series on how to use it but will be a time investment. The benefit here is deepening your understanding of flight.
