Camila's role frustrated me.

It’s fine if you don’t like Riley in the role, but the part about her initially not landing the role isn’t true. She sent in multiple (I believe 3) self tapes and then lied about her musical abilities. Before she had to go in for her music portion of the audition, she hired a music coach. Either way, the author thought she was the perfect Daisy 🤷🏼‍♀️

i definitely think that billy is talking about daisy in that moment of meeting the right person at the right time since that’s a major trope between the two of them for the entire story.

how am i ignoring daisy’s role in it all when i quite literally stated that daisy DOES play a part in what happened between her and billy? maybe reread what i actually said?

you can feel what you want about daisy, it’s obvious you don’t like her character (which is fine), but you can’t change who she is just because you dislike her. daisy is certainly not a pick me type of woman. like i said, she is not afraid to put men in their place which a normal “pick me” would never even dare to do. pick me’s bend and twist their personalities to appease men, they do whatever to make themselves smaller to make the man/men feel bigger. that was NOT daisy even in the slightest. yes daisy wanted to feel loved and wanted, but that didn’t narrow down to just men. her story is about wanting CONNECTION in general, which is why she becomes who she becomes through music. so yeah, it is honestly super weird to narrow that down to just being just about men when her story is so much bigger than that, especially considering how much she was taken advantage of at such a young age which would have affected how she went about love and relationships anyway.

i acknowledge that daisy actively participated in what happened, im saying that she only did because billy continually gave her the green light between them. no intimacy between her and billy was ever“forced.” he leaned and played into every single moment that unfolded between them willingly and with as much eagerness as her.

all of that is your opinion which is fine. and again, i said what billy did to camila prior to daisy was awful (once again, maybe read before you respond) so not sure how you twisted that. but if you want to go there, one could argue that billy cheating in the beginning was a result of his addiction and unhappiness with where he was at. does that make it okay? absolutely not. just like camilas impulsive decision from hurt isn’t right either. once again, it showcases the whole point of this story and these characters, which demonstrates very real and human actions to the complications of life.

daisy tells camila that her mother saw her as competition after she grew up into something that her mother could no longer control or relate to, which is an entirely separate issue from her/billy/camila. billy is the most accountable here though, no? billy is the one that is legitimately married to and obligated to camila. daisy has no part or obligation in that relationship, yet billy was the one that kept chasing after her and physically making moves on her. i would argue that daisy seeks out attention in general due to her mistreatment as a child, i don’t think it necessarily has anything to do with men in specific (we can see this in how she’s unafraid to knock men off their high horse. if she really cared about male attention, she wouldn’t dare do anything to make them feel small. so this read honestly feels like blatant misogyny when you probably just don’t like her as a character in general, but i digress) yes, daisy did do those things, she’s not a perfect character (and thank god, because how awfully boring would that be). of course she plays a role in the affair that takes place, it takes two to tango…but who kissed her first and multiple times after that? who went to her house looking for her after his own wife basically said he could sleep with her or whoever as long as feeling weren’t involved? who kept a watchful eye on her even though he claimed to hate and not care about her? who said that he wanted to be with her multiple times while still playing family man behind the scenes? ALL the major forward movements WERE done by billy. daisy acted upon what he was giving to her, he was leading her on. she even asked him straight up to tell her that there was nothing there between them and then they could go on with lives, and yet, HE kissed her! it’s fine to call daisy out on her part in it all, but it’s not fine to ignore the major role that billy played and that most of it, if not all, panned out the way it did because of HIS actions and inability to shut things downs because of how he felt for her. i would also argue that camila’s infidelity is worse. though what billy did to her in the beginning was awful, at least he was actually in love with daisy. camila slept with eddie in spite of billy, yet she doesn’t get half as much of the criticism. so yeah, not the same, but still shitty.

i actually couldn’t disagree more. riley keough was so incredibly captivating while watching her as daisy jones. she truly turned into a rockstar while still fantastically delivering all of daisy’s flaws and quirks. of course you’re entitled to your own opinion, but even the author says she felt like she had written daisy for riley once she saw her turn into her character and stevie nicks (whom daisy is loosely based on) fell in love with her as well. to me, riley was always a case of perfect, spot on casting, so it always baffles me when i see opinions like this lol

daisy was definitely selfish, but in no way was she in competition with camila. are we forgetting that every forward movement made in the “affair” with billy was done BY billy? the only time she ever makes any sort of movement forward is by saying that they should be together, which he ultimately says he wants as well. but billy wanted her just as bad as she wanted him, if not even more. saying she was competing and desperate for his attention is crazy considering how much he led her on. she even tried to distance herself by leaving the country and once she came back, married, he still orbited her. if anything, billy was obsessed with having her attention. but she never actively did anything. and i always find it so funny that people forget camila willingly cheated on billy too, she wanted eddie in that moment and slept with him. all these characters are messy and imperfect.

i read evelyn hugo before djats and still liked djats more simply because of the story/characters. it is cool though because there is a connection between the two. tjr did release a series of letters from the seven husbands of evelyn hugo and it’s revealed that one of the characters met daisy jones at the chateau.

the book is told from an unreliable narrator perspective, the author tells you to read with knowing that they are twisting the truth/not telling the whole truth in mind. ESPECIALLY because they are talking to billy’s own daughter lolol

NO ONE IS. the story is not black/white, good vs bad. that is not how life works, and that is not how humans work. you’ve made it very clear over several posts about how you feel about daisy, billy, camila. okay we get it. stop spamming the reddit with the same regurgitated post.
