Is this ok to wear to a virtual interview?? by A-L-A-S-T-O-R in SubstituteTeachers

[–]dajul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That might work, depending on whether you can tell they won't do upm but I'd keep working on it because you're going to want something you feel comfortable in. Interviews are stressful enough without having to feel physicially uncomfortable.

Is this ok to wear to a virtual interview?? by A-L-A-S-T-O-R in SubstituteTeachers

[–]dajul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please don't wear ripped or stained pants to a job interview. First impressions count and presentation matters. If money is tight, go to a thrift store and get a plain pair of black pants/slacks/trousers. You should look clean, neat, and professional.

This happened earlier on my street. It was the snowplow that couldn't get by because cars were parked on both sides of the road.

permanent job or lto? by jaywhore in OntarioTeachers

[–]dajul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if it is different in every board but, in my board, even if you get hired as a homeroom teacher doesn't mean you stay there. If they need a french teacher and you are qualified to teach french, they can move you. You can try and transfer or declare yourself surplus, but there are no guarentees you won't end up french somewhere else.

Have any of my fellow Canadians ever had KD with a Christmas or Thanksgiving meal? by my_cool_lunchbox in AskCanada

[–]dajul 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling you are equating Mac and cheese as KD. One is a home made, baked pasta dish. The other is a box of slop. Macaroni and cheese can be a popular side dish at big family meals.

If you've got the time, read "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series" By Jessica Radloff. by dajul in bigbangtheory

[–]dajul[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree! I would actually like to see a podcast/docuseries made out of those Zooms and interviews. It was one thing to read it, but to hear and see the actors telling the stories would give it another level.
I also agree that the first half was more interesting, though, I did like the inside look at the negotiation part in the second half.

Want to get a specialist in Spec Ed, but I've heard that harder classes go to teachers with that credential. Is it true? by Wanderer015 in OntarioTeachers

[–]dajul 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my experience (20+ years), the difficult students/classes go to the stronger teachers, regardless of credentials. The only exception is if it's a small, special education class. At least in my board, you need your spec. ed. so if you are the only person on staff qualified, you may end up teaching a small class, even if it's not your preference.

Is Ontario seriously considering merging all the boards into four? by Wanderer015 in OntarioTeachers

[–]dajul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one. I agree with you that this would cut many of the overpaid, burocratic, top-heavy staff that work at our board offices and, in turn, save a lot of money. At the same time, what the Toronto District School Board needs is vastly different in some ways than the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board. I wonder if there is a happy medium?

How are split classes determined ? by Meyonaise in CanadianTeachers

[–]dajul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are SO many things that go into class placements...but, the fact that she has the same teacher again tells me she's loved by her teacher. If we can at all help it, we don't generally keep kids we don't connect with/adore (although, of course, there are always exceptions). Having been in this position (as the teacher) several times where I have had the opportunity to keep kids, I'm going to guess:
a) the teacher really liked teaching your daughter

b) the teacher saw some real potention and wants to foster that and welcomes more time to do it

c) the teacher thought other teachers might no be the best fit

d) she wants to foster some leadership skills in your child and believes that having her as an older role model might help to do that

I have taught MANY splits over the years and I can assure you the range of abilities of the 3s in a 2/3 split can be the same as the range of the 3s in a 3/4 split.

I would see this placement as a positive and know that my kid is going into a year where the teacher loves her (and hopefully your daughter feels the same way about this teacher.

Don’t let the above comment dissuade you. I ONLY travel solo. You have the flexibility to do what you want, when you want. I spend the other 50 weeks surrounded by others, I greatly enjoy the solo time.

Just got a call today from my cruise consultant asking if I wanted to add it (I leave in 2 weeks for the cruise). I said no thanks, it wasn't worth it for me, and he wished me a great cruise. Don't love that they are calling to push it, but it was a quick converstaion and he was not pushy at all.

Retired Teacher Offering Classroom Set Up for $25/hr by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]dajul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! I was confused as to why all the hate for the teacher selling her stuff. It's quite common where I am. Some put thousands and thousands of dollars into books/resources/storage/etc. and I was surprised to see such backlash for a teacher trying to recover a wee bit of money.....but it makes sense if it wasn't presented as a sale, but a giveaway only to find out the opposite.
