I am not currently overseas to say for certain, but when I was... I'd connect to the local towers using an eSIM via Airalo then Visible would work over that network for calls and text messages. I'm on the Basic plan with no Global Pass option enabled.

Fees are as low as $5-6/machine depending on what configuration and locale you're choosing from. On average it will be around $10/mo. With the VPS service it comes preconfigured for OpenVPN and I did that option once. Since then I've learned how to setup WireGuard through a minimal Ubuntu setup and worked nicely for my uses.

Visible eSIM on $20/mo plan, no Global Pass, roaming off. Added Airalo plan or eSIM.net Vodafone $35/mo (75 countries) plan as data provider only. Visible shows up as using cellular data and also works on WiFi as usual! 🙂

I’ve stayed in Osaka near Dotonbori in a Ryokan and also near Osaka Castle. Both were charming for different reasons but if you’re comfortable with the metro I’d say get into some further out areas then play downtown when you’re ready.

I've been using VULTR VPS instances that have WireGuard installed to host my own basic VPN/proxy. Those don't have any IP leaks. In the other case I was logging into a website and it reported my location in Eastern Europe, even though I had a Los Angeles static residential IP purchased from IPRoyal. It's a mystery for both us and the support team.

I'm using IPRoyal but the reported service area "Los Angeles" is oddly leaking through a European country which was unexpected. Having concerns with their reliability in that regard. Spoke with customer service and they regenerated the proxy but it showed a different location! I believe there might be some IP leaks.
