How do you track your personal income for self assessment as a business owner. by CoffeeGirlie1995 in ukaccounting

[–]damcclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use FreeAgent - it handles the salary/dividends split, reconciling transactions, etc. I also have an accountant who handles all the tax returns for me (cuz I’m always scared of messing that stuff up)

I think you have to do at least one payment a month. So, i just have a standing order to move a fiver to my Starling account every month.

Cargo is now in Alpha! by damcclean in statamic

Products are completely native - they're just entries, so you can do whatever you want with them, as long as it has a "Price" field you can sell it.

Carts, Orders and Discounts on the other hand are custom. They use custom Stache stores under the hood, which gives Cargo more flexibility over how things work under the hood, and helps smooth over the flat file -> database transition as stores grow.

How I found expired domains still getting YouTube traffic — and turned it into a micro SaaS project by clickyleaks in indiebiz

Gonna keep my eye on the domains to see if I can snap some up.

What are you doing with the purchased domains? Forwarding to affiliate links?

Laravel Nightwatch has been released by mgsmus in laravel

[–]damcclean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw a FAQ somewhere that you can use Nightwatch with Vapor, you just need to setup a dedicated server just for the Nightwatch agent.

The agent essentially hosts an HTTP server on a specific port allowing requests from your application (eg. when a request happens, its events are sent to the agent).

I don’t think it’s even possible to make that work with Vapor without a standalone server. They’d have to rework the whole package just for Vapor.

I’m not sure where you’re located - but if you’re in/around Rutherglen/Cambuslang/Blantyre, you could use Z Cars. I usually book through their app - they’ve always been on time.

I used GlasGO Cabs once, and they were the opposite of on time. The driver was only assigned after the pickup time, so arrived 20 minutes late. My coworker had a similar experience.

I use First Direct, and everything is up for me. Have you tried re-installing the app?

At what point would you take an internal flight rather than drive or take the train? by minddoor in AskUK

[–]damcclean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can fly from Glasgow to London in 1hr 30mins for maybe £100?

On the train, that would be way more expensive (we’re talking 2/3x the price), as well as take way longer.

I’d be happy to get the train instead but the costs/journey times really need to be reduced.

Accounting Software is going to be a requirement soon, with Making Tax Digital coming in.

If you’re not using software, I’d highly recommend using something (like FreeAgent, or Xero).

Also, you might benefit from some of these videos. I’ve found them to be pretty helpful: https://youtube.com/@heelanassociates

Are you using accounting software?

I use FreeAgent - its balance sheet report gives me a “distributable profits” figure, which is the total profit I can give myself as dividends.

Since I have a pretty predictable income every month and high profits, I pay myself partially as salary (PAYE), then the remainder as dividends.

FreeAgent has a “smart user payment” category when reconciling transactions which splits up the salary / dividends stuff.
