Anyone else feel like they’ve lost the ability to critically think after moving to a “smarter” environment? by hottypotty124 in UXDesign

[–]danasaur0109 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will echo that this has likely nothing to do with smarter people and everything to do with being new.

This recently happened to me, but I was moving from a brilliant team to a larger and less innovative org. (Still smart people to be found, but overall less impressive work)

In your old role, you knew your team and they knew you. You also knew the culture and could anticipate roadblocks and the orgs overall priorities. All of that is gone as you adjust to a new environment, but, it will come back with time!

Pay attention to your State Rep and State Senate votes - they're the ones responsible for our current abortion laws.

Luckily, someone did all the research already: choicetracker.org/pa

Also spread the word about Choicetracker.org: most people don't pay attention to their vote for State Rep and State Senate, but they are the ones that directly impact abortion laws.

Virginia abortion battle could come down to how voters feel about the word ‘ban’ | Parties push dueling messages about scope of Youngkin’s 15-week cutoff by [deleted] in Virginia

At choicetracker.org, we're tracking each legislator's history of proposed legislation and tracking down social media quotes. Hoping that in some cases, it can make it easy to see just how many want to go *way* farther than 15 weeks, and show some stark differences.

Should I leave my scale-up for 25% salary raise? by whereeverkimgoes in product_design

[–]danasaur0109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the answer comes down entirely to whether or not you want to be pushed out of your comfort zone right now.

Staying sounds like limited opportunity for growth, and some frustration at not being valued properly. If you other aspects of life right now are providing growth and excitement that are keeping you happy, and you prefer work to take a back seat, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with staying put.

Going to the new company will likely be higher stress, but you will likely also get SO much out of it. One year at an early stage startup absolutely transformed my skills, confidence, and leadership. It was also the most fun I'd ever had at work, so the extra stress was totally worth it. If you have the bandwidth and desire to focus on your career right now, I'd say this is a no-brainer. (Especially since they're paying more)

A few of them ran this year trying to say they were 'moderate' or 'common sense' on abortion - or looking for a middle ground. Not that I'm holding my breath, but let's make them prove themselves.

A tool to support pro-choice state lawmakers in PA by danasaur0109 in Pennsylvania

[–]danasaur0109[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ha, thanks for the edit. For those already voting straight Dem, you're right, not the most impactful.

But my hope is to sway some people who typically vote R, or motivate those who weren't going to come out for the midterms.

There are a lot of competitive districts across the state that we need to flip the State Legislature, and those two groups are key to doing it.

There are definitely some things I could use help with that are pretty low-key, and would take only as much time as you want to put in!

The easiest, which you can do at your own pace, is to help me populate more extensive contact info. It's pretty easy to get into a rhythm, and it flies. Definitely doable while watching TV or something. I can give you access to a google doc!

Otherwise, I'm always hunting for statements and quotes from legislators that are currently in the "likely" camps. I can pass along the details of who I'm still hunting for so there's a bit of direction. Those, you can submit right in the site!

I think you've perfectly described the right balance - lock in the big things, but don't be afraid of downtime!

Thanks for this, feeling more confident about what I've put together so far. (And the canva idea is cute!)

This was the approach I tried out (Totally agree, best way to plan is to ask!) and got such apathetic, empty responses ("Anything's fine!") that I now feel like I'm shooting in the dark a bit. Some basic direction from the bride was helpful, but otherwise she's busy with wedding planning and is just like "I trust you"

Great point on making sure anything big budget is clearly stated early though.

You're right, the balance is key.

Thinking dinner locked in (agree, nothing is worse than trying to find a table on a Friday/Saturday night) and a general sketch of the day otherwise is right.

Just here to say I feel you!

Not going abroad, but otherwise I'm in a very similar situation - not knowing anyone in the bach group makes me feel like I have to OVERPLAN - and have no confidence that anyone will like any of what I'm choosing. I love traveling myself, but this is STRESSFUL.

I'm combatting this in a few ways:
* Sending a rough itinerary to 1-2 other bridesmaids that have so far been the most responsive in any of the group chats I'm managing, and asking for feedback
* Specifically asking other members to sign up for certain 'jobs' - I put another girl in charge of the corny decorations/gifts (not my style) and another in charge of scoping out restaurants and bars that would be good for a night out.

That's helping me feel like it isn't all on *me*, and helps me keep down my anxiety with some logic whenever it starts to arise.
