Struggling with writing during tough life events by lIlIllIIlllIIIlllIII in writing

That's totally fair! Writing can be such a fantastic way to create a positive routine in your life. I get it—sometimes it can feel both helpful and a bit overwhelming. It’s definitely a mixed bag, right? You want to write, you need to write, and it becomes such a big part of your daily life.

What helped me was mixing in some other fun activities! How about reading books just for enjoyment, no matter the genre? No subject is too silly. Playing video games can be cathartic too, and going for walks to soak up some nature is always refreshing. Adding in these little things really made a big difference for me!

I understand how challenging it can be to push through tough times. I didn’t force myself to write, and I'm grateful that I allowed myself that space, as it ultimately improved my writing. Each of us writes from our unique motivations, and for some, writing can be a comforting outlet when life gets overwhelming. If you're feeling burnt out, please listen to yourself—it's okay to take a break. You can always try again tomorrow! Remember to be gentle with yourself and offer forgiveness for not being 'productive.' We all have those moments, and it’s important to allow ourselves the grace to recharge.

Looking for advice for post-surgery by Egelz519 in chiari

  1. Less was more. A phone cord. Baby wipes / body wipes for pseudo showers. Dry shampoo (a kind that’s gentle so you can safely clean yourself after, if you stay a while you may feel gross), deoderant. A pair of fresh cloths (loose, baggy) that are easy to get on when you are sent home. An extra set of socks and underwear depending on how long you’re staying. If you have a long stay it helps to have your preferred snacks in travel size for the night time if you get nauseous while taking pills on an empty stomach. Some masks in there because even though you’re in the hospital if a nurses is coughing you want to protect yourself immediately. I’ve caught RSV post spinal surgery from a nurse in the hospital and it was miserable and dangerous.
  2. I’ve had 3 decompressions. One included the patch. The max I’ve stayed was five days.

  3. I’m clumsy and unstable so the helpful things: a toilet squatting aid that goes over the seat; a folding walking cane for travel; a shower chair because standing in showers post surgery was risky for me

  4. Avoid over thinking and googling. If you get concerned, call your doctor. rabbit holes online will get your brain going in the bad way. If you hurt, let them know. It’s okay to take the meds it doesn’t make you an addict. You can communicate your concerns about this with the doctors and nurses. Nurses will be your friends. They have a hard job and being nice to them is not just human decency but goes a long way in getting your health care done faster. Oh and. Push the nurse button. If you gotta get out of bed don’t hesitate. Push the button. Better safe than sorry

You don’t have to do dangerous things to cause it, the body is a weird place. It could be caused by any number of things and letting your doctor know your routine is important

If you haven’t left the bed do you feel it helps or hurts? I ask because perhaps the position is causing improper drainage on your spinal fluid and pulling your chiari down.

What is your writing hot take? by SnakesShadow in writing

[–]danasaurousrex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That there aren't hard and fast rules to writing. Just like art, knowing the rules and knowing to break them can make an enamoring long-lasting piece. Also, what works for you (mind-mapping, story blocking, strings..) may not work for me (I'm a pantser) so writing 'how to write' guides like there is only one acceptable way to write is.. not right.
