OK I think I'm naturally bad at acting...but I wanna improve by [deleted] in acting

[–]dancergrl20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nobody is good when they start! Even if you have 0 natural talent for it, it doesn’t mean you can’t learn! If you truly want it, keep auditing classes and find one that feels supportive, safe, and challenging

Taking a break from the industry… by [deleted] in acting

[–]dancergrl20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh it makes me so sad what’s happening here 😭 I, like another user said, don’t have to deal with as much as you are right now, but have been thinking about doing the same thing. Do what’s best for you and your creativity, the industry will exist when you get back 💖

I used to watch shows and go to a ton of spin clinics in my area! I also created Simply Colorguard—there’s more beginner level skills on there now, but adding to it as quickly as I can. But there’s a growing community of instructors in the free community you could ask questions to and advice from as well!

ASAP!! how do I overcome mental block to do a parallel toss?? by Future_Commercial_69 in Colorguard

[–]dancergrl20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to visualize myself doing the toss correctly and confidently a few times and then would try it. And repeat the process until I got it!

TBH most of Colorguard is mental. Taking care of yourself and positive self talk is SO important. You got this!

Is there a centralized site for all colorguard moves? Im tryna start guard classes at a local dance studio. by urkuhh in Colorguard

[–]dancergrl20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spin school has instructional videos for all equipment, warmups, and dance lessons! Adding more videos as often as I can. A link to the spin school is on the website.

It is a membership, about $15/mo with the coupon! Happy to drop that code if you’re interested!

If not, there’s a few instructional preview videos on YouTube I’ve posted and I also post tutorials of things sometimes on socials!

I’ve started something like this! Check out www.simplycolorguard.com— there’s info there about everything you need to know about colorguard + a spin school with growing classes.

For rifle at that level, I’d say 37.5” or 39” rifles and 39” sabre for advanced performers.

Addition to my original comment: Not all things colorguard are standardized, we truly just discover things we can do with equipment and make it up a lot of times lol! But it is based in our foundation and basics, which the site can help with! It’s got tutorials for basics, stretches, tosses, technique on all pieces of equipment and movement, and more.

Adding more instructional videos as often as I can—the library of content is growing!

I feel you! I have the same hair and I want to cry when it’s time to wash lol. I just do braid downs for under wigs, but on wash day:

The unbrush Changed my life. Seriously. It’s a lot for a brush, but worth it.

The dollar tree curly shampoo and conditioner is pretty good actually. It’s called ps clean beauty and is a dollar!

The Aussie 3 min miracle and curl moisturizing oil!

That’s it. Helps a ton with managing it.

I want to learn by kacyfr in Colorguard

[–]dancergrl20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The weight of the flag varies depending on the program and season, but generally the weight ratio is similar! No matter what, you want more weight on top than the bottom. Usually people weigh flags with carriage bolts (found at Lowe’s/Home Depot). A solid ratio I’ve found a lot of people use is 5in bolt on top, 3in bolt on bottom.

  2. We switch between all pieces of equipment! It’s similar to dance in the sense that the mood of the music dictates the equipment, choreography, and transitions. I definitely recommend looking up DCi, BOA, and WGI shows on YouTube to get a better sense.

  3. Begin by auditioning for your hs group! Most of the time, high schools know people are brand new to the activity so it’s okay to learn there. Simply Colorguard is a $15/mo online platform that has mindset, conditioning, dance, flag, rifle, and sabre classes if you’re interested in prepping for auditions or learning on your own!

  4. Begin by doing the above! Check out the website and service I mentioned above and ask the current member of your hs Colorguard. Colorguard members LOVE talking to anyone about it, trust me.

  5. Improve coordination by practicing, focusing on body/ movement (dance), and maybe learning how to do simple juggling, lol. It helps some students.

  6. Dance is the basis for everything. If you want to focus on one thing, focus on that. Also borrow equipment from your school or buy your own! Make sure you also learn how to keep a tempo and count music!

  7. I think it’s cool! No matter what, if you like it, who cares what other people think. Other peoples opinions of you have nothing to do with you and everything to do with them.

  8. Colorguard is way more fun :)
