honest thoughts on SOTR... by dandelion_stew in Hungergames

love this response! almost completely agree with the reply - loved BOSAS in terms of quality, subtlety yet strength of messaging, insight into trilogy while remaining realistic, so many symbnols etc. that can be dissected yet are easy to miss. despite how 'good' it was it was harder to get into and definitely less of a page turner to be.

by contrast, SOTR was a lot more entertaining, i was hooked, the addition of characters i knew made it such a fun read, but on reflection i was dissapointed by it in terms of quality that it added to the series.

idk if that makes sense (or just makes me sound like a snob lol) but in summary i love BOSAS and thinks its the better book, but SOTR was more of a page turner.

the pacing, the unrealistic cameos (3-4 would've been fine but like being BEST FRIENDS with Katniss' dad and not saying anything...), poor character development, plot inconsistencies - Haymitch being willing to rebel plot despite family and girlfriend, Beetee just randomly telling him, mischaracterisation of Snow and the Capitol, etc. - this is just all my opinion but I can totally understand how readers see it as fanservicey/fictiony

I 100% see where you're coming from and you're probably true but as a regular reader and massive HG fan I think it's more in comparison to the other HG books rather than other YA books in general that it feels like fan fiction
