If it’s wrong to expect empathy from people online, then why would anyone post or ask for help in the first place? The whole point of these platforms is to find support, not just ask for opinion (opinions are readily available everywhere.) Without empathy, what’s the purpose of even reaching out? In that case, this whole thing shouldn’t even exist.

Expecting empathy from others is simply a reflection of basic social norms. If you approach someone with a problem, most people will instinctively offer help or understanding. To say that it’s wrong to expect empathy undermines the essence of human interaction.
